Are we to believe that if Ash and company were still here, he would be playing?
Is the perception of this team that winning is not important?
There is still 67% of the season left!!!
I really hope Langan lights it up and our "redshirt" finds himself another place to place his butt.

When you receive a scholarship to play football at a university you're supposed to play.
"I don't want to play anymore." WTF is that!!!!
A player should not have the power to decide not to play (unless for health) or self redshirt. By accepting a scholarship you agreed to play football. If you don't want to play here or with this team then please enter the transfer portal. This is the equivalent of the coach saying go in the game and the player says "Naw that's OK , I'll pass."
Pull his scholarship, deny access to training facilities and any other perks you get as a scholarship D1 player.
I admire the kid for the guts he's had getting off the turf about 1,322 times like he has over the past 1+ years but this is f***ing ridiculous.
Another example of inmates running the asylum.

This is a very unusual situation. First in season firing since LSU and Les Miles. The kid never should have played last year and got destroyed. What if the next coach has a totally different offense? I don’t think he owes an interim staff a place as sacrificial lamb because Rutgers University made a mistake with Chris Ash.

I agree. He's quitting on his teammates, particularly seniors, new coach, fellow students, alums, fans. Good riddance. Just go straight to the portal. I want a dual threat QB and if Nunz is the OC next year, so will he.

Hobbs fired Ash. Should have been done last November. Art is doing nothing wrong at all. Coaches leave all the time.

You are all hilarious. Narcissistic? Really? How about thinking that your opinion of a situation you know nothing about is an absolute truth?
I'm talking about kids of this generation in general. You can't say sh*t to them. Everything is handed to them on a silver platter. You know how many coaches I've seen come and go and the sh*t did make one difference to me. Coaches yelled at me on the field and were my best friends off it. Can't jump ship at the first sign of trouble.

We can defend or ***** about it. Regardless, it’s the reality of football today. As a fan, I’m annoyed at him. As a dad, he needs to worry about his future. As fans, most of Quit on Ash and the kids, why don’t they deserve same right. Plus he has 1 more game to play

Then quit the the team. Walk away. He is on a football scholarship and does not want to play football. Choosing not to play while retaining your scholarship should not be an option.

But why redshirt now? He will have to sit a year any way if he transfers. Either way he is going to sit, with 2 years left of eligibility. Dude just quit on his team.

I'd cut him today. Finish out the semester and pack your bags.

I'll agree with you the second the awful, fired *** coach decides to forego the remaining money on his contract. You're upset about Sit's scholarship?!

Sit and Ash are doing the same thing. Both are getting compensated for not working. In Ash's defense he was fired.

Sit removed himself. I wouldn't trust him. He almost has to transfer now, which, let's be honest. It wouldn't be the absolute worst thing. Opens up a scholarship for the next coach, hopefully being filled by a higher profile player.

Can't do anything about Ash's contract. Art made a contract with the school and his team mates to play football while getting free tuition and room and board. He's violated that contract.

I agree - if he transfers, sitting the rest of this year or not, he has 2 years to play somewhere else after sitting next season, too.

If he stays at RU and gets his wish RU runs a traditional offense next season, he would save a year and have 3 to play.
Maybe he doesn’t want to play RPO rest of this year because he would be a fish out of water.

Just a guess.

Except if he goes to FCS. He could then play right away.

You guys aren't thinking right. Firing the coach is forfeiting the season. Sit is lucky that he has opportunity to redshirt this forfeited year, and he and his team mates will play next year for the new coach. It is an odd situation firing the head coach at the beginning of the season. I think it was done so Hobbs can go to games and not get boooed. It is obvious he isn't planing on hiring a new coach any time soon, he said so in that broadcast.

No sense for Artur to waste a year on this train wreck of a season. Remember the original plan was for carter to play and Artur to redshirt. Hopefully Schiano will come and convince Artur to remain. I fear that Artur has already been contacted by agents of other schools, which inspired his decision. These things don’t happen in a vacuum. College Football is a dirty, dirty game.

Where did you come up with this tidbit? Off the top of my head, I can name two in-season firings from 2018: David Beatty at Kansas and Bobby Petrino at Louisville.

i *think* they meant at the stage of the season (after 4 games). Some coaches are told after half way point or with a game or 2 to-go.

I personally think how this was handled was wrong. Since AS wants to retain his redshirt and he went to NC and told him, NC could have just said we are starting JL. Lots of drama would have been avoided. If I recall starting QB at I think at major school in Texas out n out said after his 4th game I am entering the Portal and he was their starter
In my opinion once season starts no one should be allowed to enter portal until season is over. By allowing kids to enter mid season it’s the same as allowing them to transfer out. As harsh as it may seem I agree with poster who said pull schollie.

My opinion is just that. You can disagree but I'm more in tune with the bullsh*t the some of these kids are pulling than someone like you. For the last several years the kids at Rutgers have been playing for self and it reflects in how they respond to changing events around them. When things aren't right they quit on each other. Art was fine with burning his redshirt as long as Ash and McNulty were here. As soon as the they are no longer around, suddenly Art thinks redshirting is his best option. I don't disagree, but it's really a lie to demand it now. Also, several other players are suddenly interested in redshirting. Now these sudden selfish decisions have an impact on teammates who were depending on you. These moves should have been made at the beginning of the season so the team could plan around them. No you are putting other teammates in a position to fail or get injured because they may not be ready, players like Snyder or the other walk-on QB.

I understand the importance of team commitment. My senior year at Rutgers we have several injuries at OLB. Instead of burning the redshirts of some young players, I moved from safety to OLB for a few games until guys returned. I didn't have to move, but I saw the big picture. It wasn't about the coaches. It was about my teammates. I knew what I was getting into when I agreed to that scholarship.

If you've played at that level then I can't argue with your rationale. Thought you were one of the one off the "old men mad at millennials because they are ruining their football ethos", my apologies if that is not the case.

Carter could be back in two weeks and Sit would have wasted a year of eligibility. Not surprising if Sit plays the next 3 years for us. Lets see how it plays out.

Based on NC’s comments that Carter is “still with the program” and “won’t be playing anytime soon” in addition to not being at practice the past 2 weeks makes me think that RU fans may have seen the last of him.

We are down to Langan and Snyder at QB. Tough spot for RU at this point of the season.

Very well-stated. But times have changed, and young people are different. You don't just see it on football teams. You see it in the workplace every day.

Someone else may have raised this point, but perhaps Nunzio is looking for the QB to do more running than McNulty did, and maybe this factored into Art's decision. I was shocked that he played the entire game at Michigan. He was getting pummeled in that game (and many others).
