I have been on cloud nine all day with the news of our WF transfer. He is exactly the missing piece we needed for a final four run. I have been looking all evening at the twitter pages of national basketball talking heads and writers and they ALL think he should be eligible this season but many question if he will be. They say much weight will be given on whether WF fights it. Hope I am wrong but the vibes I am getting tells me they will fight it. Plus, past history tells us the NCAA does not exactly love UK or Cal. We all know they are wildly unpredictable on how they rule on things. I am trying to find a balance between being over whelmed with joy and afraid the rug will be pulled out from under us and breaking our hearts. Sorry to be a downer but am I looking at the situation realistically ?

Wake will not fight it. Steve Forbes has built his reputation on accepting transfers. What kind of message does it send to recruits that he will fight you transferring to another school.

LOL at this You do realize Wake has lost like 8 guys to transfer in the past month . They aren't fighting 8 transfers ( or whatever the number is it might be more as there entire roster has left or transferred ) . New coach new players its just how it works.

People that post crap like this do so to troll only. Have you heard what Cal has said today - he hasn't mentioned one thing about " hoping he is eligible " or any thing of the sort . it is a non issue . Just like it will be for the ton of kids who left Wake the past month.

Which is ******** because any time a kid wanted to transfer, even mid season, Cal always took the high road and at least publicly supported the kids decision and continued to do anything he could to help them out. I wouldn’t be surprised to learn that he is still making calls to NBA execs about Whitney even though he split.

Cane, when do you think it will be made official? A week, a month, 2 months...longer?

If they fight it (which I HIGHLY doubt they will) it will send a message to other kids that "Hey, if you come here, you are stuck here- even if you hate it, or lose PT." Not exactly the best recruiting tool.

He's ours. If WF or the NCAA fight it, it will be the ultimate flag towards allowing no penalty transfers (which should be the norm) and it will show HUGE bias to the ACC and HUGE bias against Cal and UK. They won't be able to make a legit reason why he shouldn't be able to transfer and play immediately.

Reason 1: His coach was fired. No conference or athletic organization is going to tell a kid he can't transfer after the person who brought him in has been axed. If his coach had quit, that would've been a different story.

Reason 2: It's completely out of conference. Him coming to UK does no damage to Wake Forrest directly in their own schedule, per se. Of course it hurts them as they lose arguably their best player; however, in-conference transfers are often seen as more spiteful and more liable for tampering so to speak. I'm not a huge fan of in conference transfers- but I can also argue for the athlete as well being able to go where he wants to go.

Reason 3: There is no argument valid for them to raise. He seeming has good grades; no disciplinary issues. No scandal following him (money, sex, or otherwise.)

If the NCAA/WF files a motion to deny the transfer it will show as it exactly would be- biased and hateful spite. Which should be met with huge backlash as the would be using a young adult as a bargaining chip. Real classy.

So bbn, are we talking a week, a month, 3 months before the NCAA rules Sarr eligible for the upcoming season?

Probably the 3rd alternating Tuesday of October of 2232, at a quarter past never.

They will drag their butt on this as long as possible. Especially if it's solely left up to the NCAA.

Now, if WF agrees to his release, then the NCAA won't dig in their heels (in order to avoid seeming outwardly biased).

This hinges more on WF than the NCAA I think.
And if WF were smart, and had honor, they'd release him with their blessing. They screwed this kid over big time.

It isn't out of the realm of possibility considering the authority. We are talking about a governing body that makes decisions like banning Enis Kanter but allowing James Wiseman to play (even with a suspension).

That said, there is a lot in favor for Sarr. Covid is a big piece of this, how close they are to approving immediate eligibility is another...lastly it appears WF sort of screwed the kid over for NBA via Manning saying he was coming back and timing etc.

The wildcard are the coaches comments. You want to see fallout...just wait if he is ruled ineligible.

They don’t have to fight eight. Only the one we care about. Who gives a **** about the other 7? I hope he plays, but I doubt it. He will have to sit a year. Forbes will fight it and when was the last time the NCAA did anything good for UK?

Forbes will not fight it. I know Forbes personally. He is big on transfers. That is how he built his program at ETSU. He is a fighter and wanted to keep Sarr but once the decision was made he will support the transfer. He is trying to get several transfers for Wake in order to field a decent team next year.

I hope you are correct.

It will not be a good look for him to fight it.

It will also not be a good look for NCAA to deny the kid as they are basically telling him they don't want him if that happens. He has stated he will not sit out if so.

Hard to believe that Cal would have recruited Sarr unless he was fairly sure WF would not oppose the xfer.

I can't imagine Cal would have any idea whether Sarr will be cleared or not. This is the NCAA we are talking about. He definitely never got a thumbs up prior to signing Sarr, the NCAA doesn’t work like that.
Just like the Enes Kanter situation, he brought him on without knowing for sure if he would be cleared and I suspect this us the same thing.
The NCAA has no consistency and zero code of ethics, they make decisions with their gut instead of the rules. They make exceptions for some and tell others to go pound sand and smile while doing it.
They are the most crooked organization in the country and that includes Louisville university.

Have you heard his “why Kentucky” rant. The disdain in his voice... He has been a Wake for a second and acts like he is Roy from UNC and that a business degree from Wake is like a PhD from Duke.
He will not last long... but he will try to block.

He was doing everything he could to keep Sarr. Now that the decision has been made I will guarantee he will not try to block his transfer.

When I watched that 30 for 30 program on Calipari one of the things that impressed me most was how all of his former players only had good things to say about him. I am sure that you are right that he is doing everything that he can to help Whitney as he should since he did come to UK and could have gone to other schools. Unfortunately it just did not work out for him. I think a lot of these players are inpatient and want to be stars right off the bat but if he had stuck around and improved his game he definitely has NBA potential. If Wake doesn't support Sarr then it will come back to bite them in the butt.

This. Coaches would use it to recruit against him, and he needs all the positive stuff he can get, right now.

While there is a slim chance that Emmert will veto his transfer, to me the bigger issue is, will there even be a season? Some scientists are warning of another wave of covid-19 this fall.

I don't even want to think about it.

Based on the utter stupidity and condescension of the rant, I'm thinking that wiser minds at WF will take over and try to graciously put this behind them asap.
That's what I'm thinking. If they're smart, they will just agree to it, make nice, and move on.

this stuff usually isn't known until August , Sept, October . So the negative LOD will have their time to fret and wring hands. [winking] .

Again I don't get how this isn't an easy thing to see - Oliver Sarr would of been drafted this year. Article after article states this ( like the one David just posted on HOB) yet he came back as he wants to be a high 1st rounder. He didn't come out of the draft to sit at UK . Cal didn't recruit him to UK to sit .

SO if Cal and Sarr aren't worried about sitting why is anyone else. ? I honestly can't think of many transfers lately who have sat. I doubt Juzang even does. But Sarr has a true great reason not to - his coach was fired and he wasn't fired in March he was fired the last week in April .With Covid the NCAA is going to be very loose but even if they weren't this is a slam dunk. Guys like Juzang though will have a much easier chance to play right away is what I am saying. Sarr has zero to worry about.

There are arguments to be made on both sides - why he should be immediately eligible, and why he should have to sit a year. Anyone who tells you they have a good idea on where this ends up is fibbing.

Main point to me - the utter unpredictability of the NCAA (if your governing body can be said to be unpredictable, regarding matters addressed in a rule book no less!, that's a big problem).

Kyle Tucker says someone at UK thinks there's a 70% chance he gets the waiver.

Forbes gave it a good, although dirty, last attempt to keep Sarr but it didn't work and he and Wake have no choice now but to let Sarr go where he wants to.

Sarr will play at UK next year.
