Wan’Dale was, by far, our best offensive player for two straight years

We were lucky to have him

I agree. It sucks we were forced to use him out of position. Head scratching recruiting strategy.
add it to the long list of head scratching things our current head coach has done during his time here

that said, it's clear Frost is able to identify, relate to and land SEC talents. though we may only have them for their first couple years or last couple years, we should be turning these kids into Ws a lot more often than we have. hopefully having an actual quarterback will help matters a lot this season

for funzies, here are Wan'Dale's stats last year at UK compared to all-time single-season receiving records at NU:

Robinson 2021 StatsNU All-Time Receiving Records
104 receptions75 receptions (Marlon Lucky, 2007)
1,334 rec yards1,004 rec yards (Stanley Morgan, 2017)

not even close

Here is what gets everyone (or at least me) butthurt: Wandale caught 3.3 passes per game in 2019, then 6.3 per game in 2020 and 8.0 per game in 2021. Wandale was the feature/star of our offense before his abrupt departure in the off season, leaving us scrambling (luckily we found Toure who kind of softened the blow a little). Yes, he ran the ball too much, but no one really knows that his receiving production would not have gone up in similar trajectory had he stayed. Put him at 8 catches per game for NU last year and we win a lot more of those 1 score games, the season looks a LOT different. 10-3? 11-2?

At the end of the day, I dont think you can say Frost wasnt getting the guy the ball. He bailed on us, helped kentucky get to 10-3, broke some records. He could have broken our records had he done the same here, brought us back to relevancy and cemented himself as an all time great. Instead, he left us hanging. Had Frost held his receptions back to the 3 per game level in 2020, yeah, I can see him wanting more, and telling NU to piss off, but he nearly doubled it. Hell, with non-con games in 2020, he may have broken our records THEN. Thats how low our receiving records bar is.

Ultimately he got himself a beat down of Iowa in a bowl game, a couple records and a 2nd round draft selection at a basketball school. We got 3-9 and more misery. He wins, we lose. I'm fine being a poor loser, screw that guy.

he was very obviously the focal point of our offense and had the ball in his hands as much as any player could ask for it.

enough has been made about the ways he got the ball, but one thing that's usually glossed over is the fact Frost's had was forced via his hand-picked QB being completely incapable of even the most remedial of passing tasks. and when AM did throw, Wan'Dale was the only target on the field who could really hurt the defense - they were keying on him and more than happy to let walk-on du jour soak up the targets or let AM pull the ball down and fumble it to them.

I don't think his leaving was as big a surprise as many want to think it was, and I think it had infinitely more to do with his quarterback than his head coach, even though those two (Frost & AM) were connected at the lips.

Agreed and was gonna say, wonder how much AM2 had to do with it...guessing quite a bit
