The number of guys who after 2 years in the weight room obviously were never going to play was pretty amazing.

Happens every time we get a new coach. New coach comes in and makes changes the fans get behind, as long as the new coach wins. Not sure why some people are surprised by this.
Reimer is a kid who would get an walk-on offer whether you have 10 walk-ons or 75. Small-town track kid who moved to class A. He's the perfect example of kids who should get a walk-on offer. You could legitimately look at him and say you have a chance at a scholarship. Not sure Rhule could honestly say that about a lot of these kids. It's not like we have 50 walk-ons who had scholarship offers to NDSU or SDSU.
It's long overdue. I still hear it in a bar every damn Saturday. It's like nails on a chalk board to me. "WE NEED MORE WALK ONS WITH HEART!" The kid that runs a 4.8 40 from Nebraska City and is maxing 405 on Duvals quarter Squat is never going to be able to compete with kids who run 4.4 and squat a legit 600 from Atlanta playing for Georgia. I'm sure Rhule is okay with having an extra 20 to 30 kids that can help fill out the team and maybe get some snaps here and there. but Frost bringing in 75 kids from rural Nebraska to "develop" was always delusional.

Their defense full of highly rated scholarship athletes and the skill players may have helped a bit. I don't think anyone is saying that having zero walk-on's is the answer. The problems comes when you have 65, There's no way to develop that many kids into productive players. Taking kids like Reimer should and probably will always happen.

When you look at this year's recruits, this staff does not seem overly concerned with recruiting services' star ratings. And, they seem to be trying to establish the relationships with high school coaches where they may get a call about an underrated kid like Luke. But you're right, we may still miss on a kid here and there.

I think the hindsight might be on your part. I remember thinking that was a good walk-on pickup because I believe he had multiple FCS offers and had very good track times for a small-town LB prospect from I believe Kansas. He's the perfect fit for the walk-on program. Some random kid from C who didn't standout, maybe not.
Fact is he was the leading tackler for some of the worst teams ever to take the field with the N on their helmet. He’s decent when healthy, but let’s not pretend he is the cure to what ails the program

Agreed but he's actually a good player. I have a problem with all the marginal players who only played significant minutes because of major recruiting misses and gaps. Players that should have been nothing better than practice players.
I think it was that LJS that had an article that NU convinced him to walk-on over scholarship offers from I think one or more of the Dakota schools.
