Saw that story on the news this morning. Just for a knock on the window, you have to go beat a guy up? If it was a safety issue call 911 or just drive off. If it really was a dangerous situation how would you know the guy didn't have a gun and why would you go confront him?
Guy knocks on his window thinking it's his Uber, and the driver gets out to physically confront him? He didn't mean to kill him, surely, and that's a tragedy - but I don't get the whole "I need to get out of my car and fight this guy" decision because he knocked on your window.
Might be more to Jones just punching Szabo because he knocked on the car window.
Szabo might have threatened Jones and Jones reacted.

Well the guy did punch another person right before that, so was violent in addition to all the car banging. It’s a tragedy for sure.
That's new info. The news had said he had knocked on multiple windows and I figured he may have been possibly been drunk. But if he punched another bystander then I can't say I blame the coach for coming to the defense of another. Probably should have stuck around but might not have known the full extent of what happened.
What's the saying, nothing good happens after midnight and being drunk and belligerent surely doesn't help. It's too bad no one stayed with him or helped to see him off if he was that drunk.
The NY Post reported that the victim punched another person in the face, then the Wake Forest coach punched the victim who subsequently fell and hit his head.
That may explain the "I need to get out of my car and fight this guy" decision.
It is an awful situation regardless. Between surveillance video and an eyeball witness the truth will surface soon enough.
Besides, I've never had to knock on a window to find my Uber. The app tells me that my driver is here and what make/model vehicle he drives. Also the driver has always called me to say he's here.
The knocking on the window to find his ride part of the story is suspicious to me.
I had read some said his cell phone died so that's why the knocking on windows. Don't know if the battery issue was the case but if he was that drunk it wouldn't have mattered as he likely wouldn't have been coherent enough to figure it out.
Wasn't there a thread either here or the football board where a drunk student go into a cop car thinking it was uber and ending up being taken in. You lose control of your faculties and the possibility of bad things happening arise. It's a very unfortunate situation for everyone.

As to Uber, I once had a guy pull up right in front of me on a corner with no call, apparently miss me trying to wave him down and shout to him, then drive off without ever glancing in my direction. Couldn't believe it.
Still... I knew it was him because of the Uber sticker, the make/model of the car, and even a headshot photo of the guy. If this guy was banging on car windows, it does sound like alcohol was involved. I mean, an Iowa football player drunkenly mistook a police car for his Uber, so I suppose that sort of thing can happen?
True story from a few years back. I left my old office building out the side door where I like to be picked up when going to the airport. I walked up to the town car that was waiting and when I went to pull the handle the door locked. I thought, "the dumb-*** locked the door instead of opening it" and I motioned impatiently to unlock the door. Driver just sat there staring at me. And then I thought the driver, who was black, was having a problem processing that another black man needs to get driven to the airport. I'm more impatient. But then something in the look on his face made me think something more was going on. I turned to see former-mayor Ed Koch coming out of the door behind me. And then of course a car with the placard of the service we used, pulls up. "Sorry Mayor wrong car," and I step quickly in to the right car. I've often wondered if I was close to getting shot that day.
This is why people should never react to first reports regarding a lot of incidents.....most of the time they are inaccurate or missing key details.
Yes. I noticed last night that's his Twitter page was no longer following me and I could not retrieve any of his tweets. When I refresh the page I couldn't even find his account. So he may have had Twitter suspend it TFN
