Is Wagner looking like the lowest-rated team we’ve payed in recent memory (it seems so) or are they on par with some of our other weak opponents?

They scored 31 points this week, they did lose to Fordham I believe 48-31 or along those lines, but 4 TDs means they at least have an offense. Our D is not Fordham, but it wasn’t like they lost 30-0. They went 0-11 last year but their coach said he expects them to be improved. I don’t know what to expect, a challenge like Delaware/Umass, or a rollover like Howard

FWIW (which this early in the season may not be much), Sagarin ranks Wagner #251 out of 261 FBS and FCS teams. In other words, they are really bad.

Fordham, who beat them by 17, is ranked #210.

As an FYI, Sagarin has us ranked #107, but that should significantly improve having beaten #60 BC on the road.

I know everyone schedules cupcakes, but I never would have imagined Wagner fields a FB team until the schedule came out.
From what I hear from someone who works there they may be close to not fielding a student body.
Recently, the St. Johns campus down the street from them announced they will be closing their doors in a few years.

I was surprised to read recently that Wagner's student enrollment was something like 2100 (including a few hundred grad students) - would have figured it to be at least in the range of 5-6k

Wagner is probably already out of business. They just don’t know it yet.

Rider is another school that is dangling financially.

A golf buddy graduated from St Johns - Staten Island. Will be sure to tell him the news about their demise. 😀

4 TD's against Fordham doesn't mean they "have an offense"...THAT CAN SCORE ON A P5 TEAM. We could play our walkons and win this game.

Will we even throw a forward pass this week?
I would hope we pass early and often.
13/22 for 110 yds 0TDs and 1Ints will not win us many games vs any team at the top of the B1G and we can't rely on 200+ yards rushing in the B1G. We need to find a QB that can find a rhythm in games against Wagner and Temple even at the expense of an Int or two vs these opponents, games we can win despite multiple TOs. It's worth the risk.

It's a weird one to be sure. But alot of halfway decent teams want $1M+ for a one and done game. I don't know what RU is paying Wagner but my guess is mid 6 figures including travel/food/lodging.

Most Patriot and Ivy League teams pass the ball effectively. Especially Princeton. The games would at least be entertaining and a 7-on-7 facsimile.

Kargman, as a marginal FBS QB, might be able to make a play or two. Not saying he will be effective, but he may have a moment that will surprise us.

Wagner has an endowment of just short of 100 Million and has been rising. While not Harvard, it isn't chump change either. There are other FCS schools with enrollments more like D3 schools. Lafayette for example. It seems like Wagner has the resources to keep it going.

Their football team haven't been world beaters, but only recently have they been historically bad.

I am bringing someone who has never been to a college football game to the Wagner game on Saturday. I am looking forward to a late afternoon/evening game without much sun and heat.

Great game to bring out the passing game and start developing a rhythm. I would think this would be a major focus on Saturday. Our running backs will gain big yardage on less carries . Giving the 2nd and third teams the whole 2nd half will give them game experience while helping prevent injuries to starters. We should exceed 450 yards of offense.

I stand by my prediction that we will have at least four players rush for 50+ yards.

Jets fans will remember NY Jets’ Rich Kotite.
And Scarface fans will remember Robert Loggia as Frank Lopez.

don’t worry. I’m sure our media friends and exomnic department extraordinaire will make it very public what was paid for this game and how they can spin that as wasted money for the school depriving students and professors and tax payers.
