It is going to be really weird having Tubby and Pooh on the other team's sideline for this game. Tubby and the success he revived for TU basketball essentially put TU in the position to seek donations to build the Reynold's Center. I think it was summer/fall 1994 when TU announced the capital drive and project. Essentially the DonRey is the House that Tubby built.

Yup. And Judy wanted to hire Pooh. Would Pooh have been worse than Wojcik?

I'm interested to see what the World does on this. I'm afraid we will see some stuff about OU and high school sports instead.

Is there a bigger dbag on the board that AstonMartin? I vote no.

Dude sucks.
There are...at least Atson brings some actual debate at times unlike those who shall remain nameless do where its nothing but pure TU hate.

It would have been really tough to hire him and then have to let him go at some point. I just don't think he was "mean" enough to tackle all that goes along with being a head coach. Such a great guy. I hope he does get a head coaching job in D- 1. I'm pulling for him to get the ORU job. He would be perfect there.

Tubby has Memphis at 12-4 with wins over South Carolina, Oklahoma, Iowa, and UConn (along with a W over a scrappy UAB bunch to boot)

I consider him to be a vast improvement over Josh Pastner. The Ga Tech AD will be on my Christmas card list for a LONG time.

should be a fun game coming up!

Tubby vs Pastner?
Not a serious debate.
Pastner is arguably the worse coach in D1. Guy's only positive is being a good salesman to 17 year old kids.

This^ is why I said blowout loss. Memphis (even though they're short handed) has more than enough talent in all the right places to give us trouble. Add that to the fact that this game probably means a bit more to Tubby than it does to Haith, and I think we lose handily.

Exactly.

We suck, Haith sucks, you get pleasure in all of that we get it.

Go back to the damn circus Skip Bayless.

Memphis has three talented players (four-star kids) in Dedric Lawson, KJ Lawson, and Markel Crawford. (the three average 49 points, 24 rebounds)

we also have a three-star PG in Jeremiah Martin who will try to feed the ball to one of those three players...if he can't get it to them, he'll drive the ball to try and score a layup, or get the foul. (he averages 9 points, 5 assists per game)

that's it...that's what we do...coupled with solid defense, that's Tubby's Tigers.

it's not complicated, but it seems to work.

It was Buzzard Peterson that was hired after Phillips. Wojcik followed the Buzzard!

We don't have any of that. We will play 11 guys and will see what sticks. The freshmen bigs, Magnay and Igbanu, are good. Taplin reminds me of a Tubby Smith point guard. Birt will shoot a bunch and will be feast or famine or somehow both. Wheeler is pretty good but actually vanishes at times.

OU and UCONN are similar RPI to us this year. Neither is a great win.

I have fond memories of Tubby's TU teams.

So I probably will not boo when he is introduced. Might throw a jeer his way during the game though if he deserves it.

I sure won't cheer for him or pull for anything other than a big TU win.

Oklahoma's RPI will go up as they get into the meat of Big XII play (esp if they actually win a game, lol) and UConn is a conference game...I like winning conference games.

Memphis still has games remaining @Cincy, @SMU, @Temple, @Houston, @UCF, etc coming up...so we'll get our chances at some good RPI wins.

@Tulsa sure wouldn't hurt ;-)

Just being honest. So far those two teams have not lit things up.

Tulsa is capable this year but can lay an egg as easily as grab a surprising win. Nearly all new players - good talent and size but lacking a bit in quickness.

Wrong. Buzz replaced Self, left after 10 months and Phillips replaced Buzz as a knee jerk of always losing coaches. Wojcik replaced Phillips/Pooh (interim).

He and Pooh get the courtesy cheer for being key contributors in the history of TU basketball. The same way TU crowds always acknowledged Nolan and I suspect would do the same if Self ever came back for a game.

Better to win them than lose. We still beat South Carolina which keeps looking better as they keep winning.

Agree... I hate it when we hire a coach because he is a popular alum and then we have to make a change when it doesn't work out... I would rather remember the on court excellence than the arguing of the fan base..

You said "shoot." Wait until the erratic performance you will see there. I like our team a lot and appreciate your comments, but we aren't a very good shooting team most of the time. But then Birt could hit seven threes in a row.
