NU fans, Wildcats all, greetings. I apologize for the VolTrolls on this board. Now, I know you have some fans who can be just as obnoxious as the VolTrolls, I still apologize. I was taught that when you go to someone's house to show respect for the home and the folks who live in it. I wish the VolTrolls would do this. Or at least realize a truth. Going to other university boards and acting like the precise picture of the stereotypical Tennessee uneducated hicks and rednecks they make the UT and UT fans look just as bad as some folks imagine us to be. Now, I understand trash talking but in my years of roaming boards, usually as a lurker, I'm ashamed of some of the arrogant posts I have seen from UT fans. And it appears it's already starting here. Very sorry.

As for the bowl game, like many of my fellow Vols fans, I wanted Michigan. I think it would have been a more viable match. Being two once proud programs climbing, clawing, and dragging their way out of holes of irrelevance. It would have been a real fun and riveting match up in my view. But I'm sort of glad we got you. You've won more games, made some noise with wins like the Stanford spanking. I honestly admit that beyond a passing familiarity I didn't and still don't know much about NU. Didn't even realize you were in Illinois until tonight. But then, I didn't know we had a Russian named city in the USA (Idaho) until a few years ago.either. I guess the Will Rogers adage that everybody is ignorant about something is right on the money. Anyhow, you don't win 10 games by being a pushover, even the lizard men (Florida) with all their pure dumb luck had a stifling defense and admittedly a steroid fueled QB to get their wins. They weren't exactly pushovers. So I expect the UT-NU game to be very entertaining with both teams coming out feeling they have something to prove. NU to stick it to the big bad SEC. UT to beat a 10 win team to show we're on the way back to prominence for real. I expect some hard hitting and spectacular plays as the dynamite goes boom all game long. Finally, not all Vols fans are VolTrolls, it's just that there are enough of them to make it seem that way. VolTrolls, take Coach Jones advice he gave that disgusting Oklahoma player after the game. "Have some "dayum" class!"

This is very likely the only post you will ever see from me here. I might turn up to lurk but not comment. When I visit an opponent's board it's just that, a visit. It's very rare to see me post after my initial one. So all you Wildcats going to the game, travel safely both ways. Those staying at home to watch on TV, enjoy every minute of it win, lose or draw. Joy is hard to come by in this crazy world of ours these days. But for one day and three plus hours, may yours be a joy when it's football time in Tampa.

Thanks. It is not as if we were not warned by Glidecat, a Tennessee native. He did tell us that there were Vol fans of your type as well so thanks for confirming what we were beginning to question.

Not your job to apologize for others, so relax already. It’s a hallowed tradition, dissing your opponents on boards like this. Cheaper than going to a shrink, for sure.

As for not knowing NU was in Illinois in a suburb of Chicago (that’s also in Illinois, believe it or not!) --- I have to confess I always thought the University of Tennessee was in Kentucky on its border with Utah. So we both learned something tonight.

You wanted to play Michigan? Really? That second-best football program its own state? Bunch of posers. They hired a former Bears QB as their head coach, the Colin Kaepernick fan boy who ducked and ran from San Francisco as the wheels were coming off. Which says a lot; talk about scraping the bottom of the barrel.

Some of us are a bit let down that we got stuck with playing Tennessee, having preferred it be Alabama on our way to the National Championship. The Vols are, what,10 rungs down from us on the rankings ladder? And went 2-4 against eventual bowl invitees this year, compared to the Cats’ 6-2 in that category. Hoping our guys can get up for the game. Big challenge for Fitzgerald and his staff. But we did fine against Eastern Illinois and Ball State so we’re probably going to be okay on January 1 as well.

Hey, I’ve lived in both Tennessee and Georgia, so I know you SEC folks are pretty fanatic about your teams. I probably would be, also, given that the alternative would be Falcons or Titans. Yikes.

Putting aside the sarcasm ... I’m looking forward to our matchup in Tampa, and expect we all will enjoy the game (if not the outcome, for the loser) assuming both our teams are on their respective games. Thanks for the visit, and hope you don’t take seriously the sarcasm and lame attempt at humor.

It's already beginning. "We didn't wanna be at that bowl game", "hell our players just weren't interested in playing those ****** Vols", "fitz just couldn't get our boys focused to play a lesser team", "our guys wanted to play Florida". Already sounding like Iowa fans. That team got its **** pushed, and I suspect the same for your intramural team that shows up. Listen you think you are good because you're ranked 12? You beat ball state. You did beat the teams on your schedule, and that's all you can do. It's not your fault you play in a socially, and athletically inferior conference.. The athletics in your conference are on par with AAC, which may field better teams.. Anyway, look forward to the *** whipping that is soon to happen.

stupid response. If there is anything that 99% of NU fans have, it's an inferiority complex. Most of us were saying we'd rather play florida because TN is obviously a better team.

Sadly, many of us have seen this movie before, NU gets the pi$$ed off team that's on a roll, and MichiPuke is spoon fed the struggling team.

I think we will be competitive. We have a good defense, I hope we win. but you won't hear any excuses about lesser bowl/team from me. that is patently stupid.

As Glidecat stated, I think that if you go to the game, you will see a lot different type of Tennessee fan compared to the board Trolls. Cordial, friendly and respectful. Numerous fans from other schools have talked about how they were treated respectfully at Neyland Stadium when they came to visit. Good luck to both teams, and here's to a game without serious injuries. May the best team win.

Well, count me as one of the Vols fans who are excited with this match-up. Northwestern has a proud history and has fielded some pretty awesome teams in the past--most recently in the Gary Barnett years. Pat Fitzgerald is a nationally respected coach, too. It's an honor and a pleasure being matched up with you guys in the 2015 bowl season.

A lot of Vols fans will subconsciously equate NU to Vanderbilt, primarily because of the academic achievement and reputation of the two schools. Being the most academically-renowned school in a major football conference, as both you and Vandy are, naturally draws such comparisons.

But you can push that comparison too far. NU has had success on the gridiron that Vandy can't touch. You are a dangerous opponent. I look forward to the challenge!

Thanks for nice post. A few of my friends went to UT for the game with Missouri and stated that the fans were "super".

VOL social media is ruthless.... admittedly, we tend to attack in bunches. Its how we are raised. If one is under fire, we all are.

That being said, you gotta understand its just for fun 99% of the time. We just like a good point / counter-point battle of wits. I laugh when someone burns me on twitter!

So my advice is to just give it back! No blood, no foul I say!

Lastly, the majority of TN fans I have spoken with do respect your team and its abilities. Should be a great game!
