Volleydogs tie school record with 8th SEC win

This is an amazing run. State beat Georgia in Athens tonight to pick up SEC win No. 8. The best record State ever had was 8-12 in 2006.

The girls are 8-2. They have eight more conference matches left. They have never made the postseason. Even when there was an SEC Tournament they never made it.

They appear to be an absolute lock for an NCAA bid. Could play their way into a host if they finish really strong. Bye this weekend, Alabama at home next midweek and Two against Mizzou next weekend. All should be winnable.

Tonight wasn’t their best match. They won in five against a weaker Georgia team. Coach used up her challenges early and it cost us in the fourth set when there were two obvious bad calls that could not be reviewed in a set we lost 26-24. Didn’t let it rattle us. Went strong in the fifth set and got out of there with the W.

Yeah it was a big win on the road, I thought we were going to give it away at the end but the team pulled through. Very fun team to watch and they are damn good.

Volleyball is 10x better to watch than women's college basketball.
It is fast paced with constant moving, scrambling, and power.
Spend a few matches watching to see where each player goes depending on where they are within the rotation. That alone will help you understand a good bit of the strategy to the team's offense and defense.

Yes. They took a set from Kentucky and almost took a second. Kentucky is really, really good (as evidenced by their national championship, obviously), but the gap between us and them was not near as much as it has been. If we would have taken that second set, it would have been interesting.

We won set 1 25-21, then lost set 2 25-21. Kentucky dominated Set 3, but we led most of set 4 and dropped it 25-22. If it would have gone 5, we would have had all the momentum. The loss that hurts is the five setter we lost at Florida. Lost the fifth set 15-13 (the minimum you can lose by). Played like crap the first two sets then turned it on. We should have beaten Syracuse and Houston. Georgia Tech is really the only loss we have where we were just completely outmatched. Tech is good - will host a regional that we may end up at.

Good, I'm glad you pointed out the next negative stat to fall. The curse has been lifted. Many demons were felled in Omaha in 2021. It's time for all of these kinds of tidbits from our formerly less-than-successful sports history to fall by the wayside, never to be mentioned or considered again. State is officially a championship school and we need to start thinking and acting like it. Everyone needs to get on board. I'm speaking it into existence. Postseason in every sport 2021. Let's 17'ing Go.
