#5 Virginia loses to unranked Purdue 69-40?
You act like Purdue is a meh team. They’re good. Like real damn good. And for past several years. Elite. Should have made final 4 last year had Virginia not beat them in miracle team. They ll be top 25 next poll

Purdue may be a very good team, but they're still unranked, and Virginia is still #5. It is one thing for a top 5 team to lose a close game to an unranked team, but something else for a top 5 team to struggle to score 40 points and get blown out by 29 versus an unranked team.

But if you had to place odds on "a top 5 team struggled to score 40 points" wouldn't UVA be the favorite?

Just checked the betting line.

Purdue was favored by 2-3 points.
Turns out it wasn't actually that big of an upset.
If the betting line looks "off" it usually means something.

Virginia at 5 is too high. They lost too much from last year: Hunter; Jerome and Guy. Plus Key - their #2 scorer is hurt. Virginia will be a top 25 team when all is said and done but they are not a premier team and certainly not a top 10 team. They were exposed tonight as their offense is very limited.

Agreed. Plus Purdue already has 3 losses including to a very average Marquette team.

Well maybe they shouldn't be unranked

Purdue will be battle tested by the time conference play begins. They’ve already played Texas, Marquette, VCU, Florida State and Virginia, going 2-3 in those 5 games. That’s like the polar opposite of our SOS so far.

Virginia only defeated U Mass by 12. They really are not too good on the offensive end. Their defense is still pretty good. Purdue is one of the toughest home courts in the country. I'm sure Purdue was super jacked up for this game against Virginia.
