10 years today... I remember the frantic phone calls to make sure former students were okay, including to a recently retired coworker whose younger child was a freshman.

And dukehokie lost his friend Matt La Porte, who is credited with saving others that day, in line with his plans to serve our country in the Air Force.

A group of ROTC cadets at Virginia Tech are currently petitioning to have the new cadet dormitory named for La Porte. It would be a break from tradition of naming new buildings for wealthy donors. If you can spare a dime, a contribution in La Porte's name could support this cause.

@Dattier thank you for posting. While I did know Matt and Ryan Clark, my close friend was Michae Pohle. He was one of the best people I know.

I'll never forget @dukiejay emailing me to check in to see if everything was ok. That was so unexpected and so touching. He then followed that up with a post and the show of support from the board was tremendous. Just one of those little things that made a world of difference.

Shoot. I was hazy on the name, and thought it was b/c there were 2 Matts. La Porte seemed more familiar.

Michael's story jogs my memory more. There was a heart-wrenching interview or guest column by his fiancée.

Sorry for your loss, our loss, and everyone's loss. Always will be, however well we all move forward, making the best of it, honoring them.
