Fellow Duke fans, with the tragedy and sadness in Florida recently, I was talking with some friends and one thing I don't do enough is practice my constitutional right and conceal carry. I do have the permit but it's difficult to be consistent as I travel out-of-state (and/or to/from Cali) at least a couple times a week. That said, I want to carry more when close to home. Do any of you carry a full-size side piece? Or "subcompact"? Any experience with full-size and urban carry holsters?

I don't want this to turn into a gun debate so if you're anti-gun or anti-CCW, please don't comment here. Mods, please let me know if I should move to the lounge, although no one appears to even check in there anymore.

Thank you.

I carry every day in Florida. I have a crossbreed SuperTuck Deluxe for all my semi autos. I use a custom holster for my Jframes when I need deeper concealment in NPE locations.
https://www.crossbreedholsters.com/supertuck-iwb-holster.html

My main carry gun is a M&P 9C which conceals very well under a t shirt. When I carry a full size gun, I will wear a cover garment.

Hope this helps.

I carry a Glock. 357 sig in my vehical and a Kimber Micro .9mm on me, and bless their heart if they break in my house. One guy told me at Cabelas he got his Concealed carry permit from Utah online which covers the state's that aren't covered by north carolinas. I haven't checked to see how reliable that is but he said he was covered in all 48 states. Most gun stores will let you try on holsters so just explore what works.

I hope your buddy doesn't get pulled over in at least 10+ states that don't recognize UTAH?!?

I use urban carry. I was never able to find a ccdw holster that was comfortable to me, but this thing is awesome, and yes, it really works just as smoothly as shown in the video. I usually carry either a glock 42 9mm or Kahr cm9.....another option is to go holsterless and carry a little tiny American arms 22 magnum revolver in your pocket. Check out the video of the urban carry

And here is the little American arms. This thing packs a lot of punch as a magnum compared to a standard .22

I used Alienware 4.0 cloak for years. That was for my SR40c. I switched guns this year , went with the Springfield Armory XDs 3.3 45acp. Springfield sent me a bonus paddle holster and dual V magazine holster and amazingly, they are perfect. And yea, if you kick my door in in the middle of the night, you’ll probably be listed as one of the top ten most unfortunate guys in America.

I need to stop being a cheap-arse and get a sub xd40. I have the full size and also a s&w 640 .357 stub but that's only 5 rounds....

Nurse at a doctors office I went to the other day was carrying a .357 snub nose. I was like “I’m switching doctors ASAP!”

He wasn't a buddy just a guy I met at the store one day. I haven't checked the validity of what he told me cause I don't go out west anyway
Crazie, a friend of mine who teaches concealed carry said those CCWs from states like Utah and Zona are legit but it’s classroom only and not actually shooting your weapon. He said they’d work but you may have problems if you were to shoot someone in N.C. and had a permit from another state that doesn’t offer the shooting aspect.

The class I took required us to be able to field strip the weapon for cleaning, and required to shoot 20 shots, with at least 15 of the 20 hitting a target not much bigger than a basketball. I think it's important that if you are going to give someone a license to carry, that you confirm they understand how the weapon functions, and that they are competent using it

I'm pro-gun and actually think we need more strict training/licensure requirements.

I carry a Springfield 3.3 45 on my ankle with a Blackhawk ankle holster and any where from my Springfield 4.0 45 to my Springfield TrP sub compact 45 xdm . 45 subcompact in customized holsters I had made by a leather maker out Fayetteville,Nc. All fit in the pit of my lower back so no one knows it’s there.
The best way to go is have one custom made. I have three shoulder holsters I where one is custom made for my Springfield Xdm .40 full size max capacity magazines( four mags is what the holster hold plus the weapon) you never see it. Under armor or 5-11 tactical make built in holster shirts that are great for jogging or excercising. Both can fit the ruger.380 and the bodyguard special with ease and comfort.
I have black hawk paddle holsters and CCW holsters but my customized ones are the most comfortable and hidden.

So cal you stay in NC?
Only reason I ask is because although a headache at times, the process of purchasing or getting your CCW is by far the best I have seen .

PA (and CA here). PA was easy, actually almost too easy. CA? Lol, not even bothering!

I carry my XDS 3.3 sub-compact everywhere I go and have both a kydex holster which form fits the XDS a little better than my simplyrugged leather holster (but not by much). The simplyrugged still fits REALLY WELL and is absolutely more comfortable when in a sitting position. Wanna throw this out there, do any of you own a good concealed carry jacket or coat that you’d recommend to others???

Ruger .380 will have no more bulge than a set of keys. Pocket holster works well. Glock compact .45 , it needs a little more cover, but , there are a number of holsters available from pancakes to models fit on you side. Lots out there. In the mountains I carry a S&W .44 everywhere I go when I am working out in the woods or anywhere on the property. We have a lot of bears there , way too many. See them on all the cameras. Also all around the house. They are not bashful. NC CCP classes are pretty thorough. I understand a lot of states are not.

I love my Springfield XD 45. I never carry it though. I carry a Kahr PM9. As a side note, I HIGHLY recommend Prolix as a lubricant. Been using it for 10 years and never get any rust, even in the humid south. They sell on Amazon now. It goes on wet, dries dry leaving an invisible barrier. Non toxic too. My rifles love it.

Thanks for the tip on the prolix. I'm going to try it out.

I also love the M&P9c. My hands are small and it’s perfect.

The only time I felt the need to carry was when I was living on the border of Prince George’s County, and it was impossible to do so legally given my commute and the strict laws. It’s a shame all the thugs up there didn’t seem to mind the restrictions.

Here in NC, having it in my ride is plenty.
