I may be wrong, isn’t there a poster VanHusker located in Spokane? Hard to fathom what those folks are dealing with.

It's awful. My brother is 20 miles to the east and safe from the disaster areas right now. I have a good friend there who texted me last night that it's apocalyptic. So many without power, hospitals being strained, so many being evacuated from their homes.

The situation is Spokane is horrendous and the fires are still not contained. We're about 80 miles south so are okay, but the AQI is pretty bad and getting worse (depending on the winds, of course). The fires in the PNW and Inland Northwest are unbelievable this year - they're every where.

The app "Watch Duty" gives you good information about the location of fires.

Prayers up for those involved. We had a wildfire wipe out one of our farms and all of the fence on it a few years back. It was insane how fast it went through

We had a good day yesterday, but the smoke moved in just before dark. There are fires North, Northwest and Southwest of us. We had a lousy ski season due to low snow levels this past season, so it is not a surprise we are having a bad fire season. The extremely hot weather has not even started. That will make it even worse. I think a couple of factors come into play. Environmental issues are a major factor. There is also very little logging done anymore. Logging cleared out a lot of the dead trees and underbrush. There used to be a lot of free-range sheep and cattle in the mountains in the summer mowing down the grass and the brush. The lamb processing plant was taken out about 25 years ago. I don't think it could compete with New Zealand, and our wool market is very slim. Groups like the Sierra Club have bought up the grazing leases of public land that have prevented ranchers rom running their cattle on local federal land. No easy solutions.

(Off the subject, but Twin Falls, Idaho is about one of the safest towns I've been to. High population of LDS. Farming town. Really prosperous area. My older neighbors, a married couple, are thinking about moving there. I am sure the whole town is in shock. Just goes to show you crazy people can exist everywhere.)

Air Quality Index has been over 500 the last two days. It has been bad since Sunday. I water our flowers and herbs, check on my peppers and tomatoes and then take the dogs to a field for about 30 minutes. That is about all the time I am outside. Riding my Peloton and lifting light dumbbells (I am old) while watching YouTube videos to get some exercise. I hope I don't have to wait until late September/October to get good air.

My wife had to fly out unexpectedly two weeks ago to North Carolina as her ninety-year-old mother had a health issue. (She is ok, now). So, it is just the dogs and me until Saturday when she gets home. I told her to stay. NC air is fine.

For those who want facts about the fire.

Dude needs to be publicly burned at a stake. Murdered once previously. Could have killed dozens of people this time. We need to make public examples of dipshids like this.

The problem is his attorney has already asked for a mental evaluation.its the same **** different day . Oh this poor guy has mental illness he doesn’t understand? They need to leave his cell door open when he walks out it’s an attempted escape and they put a bullet in his head.
