UVU vs Duke

Posting this so some can get a fill as to where UK is compared to other top teams

Starting out just like the UK game. Good defense by UVU even though the other team is more athletic. They are making good decisions and driving hard to the basket. Had two shots blocked so they adjust and kick it out. 6 minutes has passed and UVU is up 10-8 and about to go to the line to shoot two.

On a couple possessions the Duke bigs have had trouble scoring with the Meyang kid protecting the rim. He doesn’t have a block yet but he is making them adjust their shot

Hey, the fact that they are hanging with Duke puts last night into perspective.

We are young and made tons of mistakes but we got the win and some much needed experience. I love the fact that we played such an experienced team.

17-15 and to some people on here surprise that think the refs love every team but UK......Duke has 5 more fouls than UVU!!!!!!!!!!! Lol. UVU is thought to get second chance points on because they all box out. I’m interested in how this games goes on because one thing UK has over Duke is depth. Also if Grayson gets in foul trouble that can be a big problem imo.

I still think Duke wins though like I’d think any blue blood would beat UVU but they will know the were in a battle

As i have said all year. Bagley is best player I have seen since Davis. A total game changer. He may well average 25 pts and 12 rebounds a game.

You didn’t have to read or post. This thread is for people who want to see where UK stacks up since they already played UVU. It could have been UVU vs any ranked team and people would have wanted to know. It’s not often that a team UK plays, plays another highly ranked team the very next night

Won’t happen. Our game against UV was an aberration. We missed a lot of shots that would normally fall, and if they did, we would have won by 25.

Both teams played back to back. UVU just has issues with zone and length. In conference they will probably kill conference teams zones.

One game is not going to show how we stack up against other teams. You are worrying for no reason. Plus They just played us yesterday and had no time off. There is no way to compare the games. So if Duke wins by 30, I guess that means we might as well give up on our season?

True. They won’t have the stamina to go a full 40 tonight. At least in conference tournaments you don’t have to travel between games, and both teams are worn equally.

Of course it’s not a end all be all and no one is putting a bunch of stock into it. It’s just nice to see the differences. I have to watch anyway for scouting work but I would have watched anyway.

Both teams had no time off and it’s no different than playing in a conference tournament. I’ve seen teams play back to back games before playing the third game vs a team who hasn’t played yet. Not sure why people think these kids are our age and will be dead tired or something. Hell UK and other teams have practices for three straight days that are harder than games.

I expect UK to be ahead of Duke by the end of the year (i can admit I’m biased as a Cal fan) but I agree about right now.

So far it’s a pretty typical Duke team. Very good offensively, not strong defensively. Carter Jr. looks like he could be a pretty good rim protector though. Duke probably had the best starting 5 right now, but they have literally no bench players that are worth a damn. I’m going to reserve my judgment for Tuesday night. Michigan st. is big, quick, athletic and experienced. If duke can look as good against them then they should probably be the best team right now. It’s a long season though. Duke is going to have to really develop defensivly, which isn’t a staple of their program. And they will need to produce some type of reliable bench production. I think that’s going to be their Achilles heel in the end.

In this case, you have a major shift in time zones for UVU. travel fatigue and playing in two hostile arenas back to back. I don't think it compares to playing on a neutral court within conference.

Well, they played in a different state last night. Had to catch a plane and fly to their next game. Unless they have been doing this in conference tourney's and nobody knew, it's not the same thing. They didn't just go back to the hotel and relax. Does that help you any? I'm sure it won't.

if this was an elderly basketball game sponsored by the YMCA you’d have a stronger point..(I sure guarantee you wouldn’t afford Duke that kind of excuse.)
