I'm just tired of Cal's approach of this garbage dribble drive offense. It just doesn't work like it did when he had elite recruits all over the floor. It is all drive recklessly into people and try to draw the foul or you have to make a circus shot. This offensive philosophy is offensive. There probably is no other team in the country that looks this inept on offense.

I’m beginning to want cal in the nba. Just about every season he has that one player he rides come hell or high water. That’s not gonna cut it treating hagans with this level of entitlement
Sssshhh....can't speak the truth around these parts.

You never include that layups he misses or gets blocked and the 3’s he clunks you’re there.
Not to mention he is supposed to facilitate our offense and we look lost most of the time when he’s trying to facilitate it.
Did you see how Winston controlled the game near the end for mich state tonight
Winston is a scorer. Did you see how he did when Hagans guarded him? 5/12 FG

Hagans wasn't good offensively tonight, 4/10, but I don't expect it either.

We were due for a letdown after winning the league. Odd that it came when up double digits.

It’s not just about turnovers. This is the most absolute reductionist argument I’ve seen for the issue at hand. Unless Hagans can return to mid-season form this team will achieve nothing with Hagans running the show. Quickley is the better scorer and Maxey is much more talented. Hagan hurt us deeply tonight, you can not deny it rationally.

What’s so odd about it? We been giving up double digit leads all year.

This.
I am blown away by the number of picks set by Richards in which he bails before contact, and then isn't available for the lob down low. The shooter's coming off screens never have their feet set, and most of the time the bail on the play and just bring the ball back out for another reset. It's wasteful clock management.

Huh. Due for a letdown after winning the league? If you say so.

Literally has not shown up against any other team.

And if you blow a double digit lead it’s on the coach. Sorry.

I’m not talking about Hagans being a scorer. Did you not notice how our offense stalled with him in there? He rarely ever gets the ball to another player in good scoring position.

Wanna elaborate? Or just arguing semantics?
Cal has said he is the best point guard in the country. He is going to ride that one out. Cal has his way and he’s not going to make wholesale changes to how he operates. Anyone who thinks he will is kidding themselves. Whether anyone thinks it is right or wrong doesn’t matter. Cal wants a short rotation and won’t change that view.

Cal has three point guards, his words, on this team. Hagans was not performing at a level tonight that warranted his playing time. His 3 point shot is terrible by D1 standards but he apparently has a green light. To say UK doesn’t have options is either not true or that is the one thing about this team that has to fall on Cal.

It's not an opinion.

What is not an opinion? That Hagans only had two turnovers? Is that the determining factor for a good game?

Okay, let’s individually measure the total impact each of the three guards had on the game. You tell me how it finishes in a ranking from 1-3.

Spoiler alert, Hagans is dead last. And for this game, probably behind Juzang too. That is absolutely unacceptable.

Cal doesn't have options, in the sense that:

He doesn't want to lose games, even if it means being in a rock fight day in and day out

He has no depth on the bench, his own fault for not recruiting more kids

He can't put Hagans in a shooter role

Hagans CAN bring the ball up the court, it's what happens in the half court that is the problem

Hagans is being recruited over, the kid is not staying a third year, so he's either heading to the NBA or transferring

I’m gonna flush this turd and move on. Looking forward to the big dance.
I'm not. Anything could happen, we could hit lightning at the right time.

Too many glaring weakenesses:

PG that can't shoot
Two shooters who don't play defense
Two centers that are a step slow, and a forward who couldn't guard his own shadow

Some things stood out tonight that are unacceptable this late in the season

Richards is very slow to dunk a ball, and can't get open

Hagans gets blown by on defense

Sestina won't stop fouling carelessly

Both Richards and EJ have weak hands and poor hand-eye coordination in general. Richards was stripped 2-3 times tonight

We are coming off curls and fading away or not set on shots

Richards and EJ are scared to death of contact when they are asked to set picks

Agree but Cal says he is the best point guard in the country. Why does he say that? Cal has the players to sit Hagans given Maxey and Quickly but won’t.

Hagans must have a super hot mother. Only logical excuse I can see for Cal putting him on the floor.

I think he belongs on the floor. I just think he is the ball controller too often for a guy that turns it over, doesn't finish well, and doesn't shoot it well. It's like a yo yo when he has the ball....even when he doesn't lose it the ball gets away from his body a lot and makes clean passes and offense difficult at times.

He's good and outworked our bigs. He deserves some credit I think.
I think he's the kind of guy if he's on your team you love him but if he's playing against you, can't stand him. he definitely looks like he would be too goofy to be good at basketball. but he's pretty good

No argument with any of your points. KP is calling the teams inability to compete. Lack of effort cost them the game tonight imo

I'm not privy to what kinds of conversations Cal has with the kids. I'm thinking he knows next season Hagans will not be running the point, whether Ashton stays or goes. I just think he doesn't want to embarrass the kid, and would rather have other shooting guards on the floor than Hagans.

Agree except he keeps playing him despite his mistakes. One thing I have always felt about Cal is he often has his favorites (for lack of a better word) that get to play through mistakes while others seem to get yanked with their first mistake.

Not gonna be long for it...what you saw tonight is exactly how we're gonna get bounced in the first round

Well, the debate about whether or not we need a loss to take the pressure off
Not gonna be long for it...what you saw tonight is exactly how we're gonna get bounced in the first round

You’re right about that. Cal will hopefully get maximum motivation out of this L

Or they inexplicably get yanked after making a winning play. He does that several times every game. He has no real plan. Just coaches on emotion.
