You were never as bad as 3-4 others, at least not that I can remember.

Holy cow. There’s a reason guys like Archie and Red Rover can’t show there faces here anymore.
Yeah there were a few that were just nuts about him and used "research" to prove how great Mike would be oh and don't forget...BAMA WANTED HIM!
Hahaha!

I was that guy 100%, I admit it.

I so desparately wanted it to be true. I was an obnoxious guy for 2 years and 3 games, and I am pretty sure I apologized to a lot of people after that.

It’s sad how a desire for something to be true can turn someone into a crusader. I feel like I should apologize all over again.
Don't ever apologize. If the athletic department would've stayed out of way (limiting how they could work out, firing Mark Banker, hiring Diaco, etc) then Riley would've done better.

Championship level? Probably not, I'll admit that, but things wouldn't have hit so low that final season.

No ****. Banker had started to get things going a bit on defense.

I actually thought that it was fairly fun to watch. The thing all of these new leagues seem to usually lack is decent QBs. That’s what seems to make it look sloppy always. The production value is there, and Fox seems to really be trying to tout it, I just wonder if anyone will be watching by week 2.

The first week of the original XFL seemed like there may be staying power also, but no one watched week 2 on.

I turned on the first game on sunday, was halftime and there looked to be about 100 people there. Saturday's game looked like it had a decent showing.

My guess is people chose Easter over minor league football.

I agree. The game I watched had Klatt on the call and that already is a step up. Also interesting to hear the coaches mic'd up, but all in all it was a lot better product than the other tries lately. I'd definitely watch more games. Best product yet for spring ball.

I was watching the "A Season in the USFL" pregame documentary. You get a better understanding of the cost savings having all the games played in one city. They basically turned the hotel complexes around the stadium into offices, meeting rooms, work out facilities, living facilities, etc. It makes pretty good financial sense for the first year. I wonder if next year an idea wouldn't be to save money to keep saving money to keep the "all games happen in one place" theme going but expand to two or three football towns that lack an NFL team? San Antonio?

I'm work with a guy in Birmingham, so go there every few months to visit family. I went to a UAB game and the Auburn/Houston bowl game at the stadium. It is a great stadium with very nice amenities, including the surrounding area. It’s pretty amazing what they’ve done with the whole Uptown area. That stadium has a lot of good places to watch the game other than your seat. The concourses are very wide with televisions everywhere. There are also high top tables along the concourses where you can sit, eat your food and watch. At the games I went to, a lot of people didn't appear to ever find their way to their seat. Admission to these games are general admission for most of the seats, so there will be a lot of people wandering around.

One of the biggest surprises to me was the protection both QBs were getting from their O-line In general I found it to be very watchable football. The play and speed on the field reminds me of elite college level level but not NFL or even Candian League. Amazing that they are doing these Bios and a lot of the players are 8-10 yrs removed from their college years.

Its only halfway through first quarter of the season but I feel like this USFL has a high ceiling they can achieve. Hopefully this attempt at a Spring league lasts for a while. Birmingham has had a team in just about every one of them. Their fans feel a bit like a girl that keeps getting left at the alter. There’s a lot of people in Alabama who really want professional football to make it there.

Men's track team finished 3rd in the B1G indoor, wresting 5th in the nation. On the track, NU's 400M game has slipped quite a bit, but they do really well in the hurdles, jumps and throws. Wrestling team is a rung below elite status. These programs have been top 20ish or better programs for a long time.

Yep. This is simply a made-for-TV-league so that FOX/NBC has programming to compete with the NBA playoffs. Birmingham is basically hosting a 10-week Cactus Football League, or a 10-week Football CWS.

And then they will wonder why the league failed.

1. Birmingham is a **** hole. outside of the gulf, the state of Alabama is trashy and undesirable to visit. So why would anyone ever want to go there for a semi-pro game?

2. What kind of loyalty can cities build behind its teams if the teams never play in its cities? (It should be only for this season I believe.)

3. Most people hate the Crimson Tide. When I hear Alabama and football, I think of the crimson tide and generally how awful college football really has been since Nick came to Bama. Then I think, “why do I want to watch an Alabama league in spring” and then say Screw this I’m going outside and enjoying the weather.

is there a way to short the league? I’d throw some $$ down on that. Everyone keeps trying to make football in spring happen but they lack any vision. Thought the league that was going to do an ex-college star theme had a little shot but they couldn’t get financing

To continue next season, actual home games have to happen. Otherwise it shouldn’t finish the second season

I was that guy to, and I'll take it one step further....I lobbied for Riley the year before we hired him in a thread asking who we'd want for a head coach. TulsaTom (I think it was him) wanted Gundy and I went full retard explaining why Riley would be a better choice. Talk about being careful what you wish for!!!!
