A little history for you “youngsters” under 30 or so:

I was fortunate to work for a large university when the Internet/WWW was ramping up in about 1990. Usenet news groups had been around even before that time but really took off around that same time and included at least one or two Huskers news groups. So during our glory years that was the primary game in town for fans to interact as we do today by computer. Unfortunately, by the time the Internet matured and Rivals, Scout etc. came around in a big way, NU was on its way to the toilet and has stayed there. That has meant that during most of Rivals existence we have been an unhappy fan base often squabbling, broken only by brief bouts of optimism when a new coach has been hired.

It kind of sucks to be an old codger in many ways, but at least I will always cherish the glory days of Husker football. Hopefully you under 30 “youngsters“ will someday have similar memories. It has been so long since we sniffed greatness, it amazes me that the fan base still supports the program as it does.

Glory days stories? I got one.

My uncle lived in Alaska back in the days before very many games were televised (waaaay before the internet), and no radio stations carried the Nebraska games up there, so he would call my grandparents every Saturday, and they would set the phone next to the radio, and the Alaskans for Nebraska group would huddle around that phone and listen to every game.

Oh, and that was back when you had to pay per-minute for long distance phone calls!
