Dang ... dude has a 14-5 record coming into the Stanford game and he gets the ax? Seems a bit harsh. Wonder if there's something more to this than his record.

So he was 14-5 the past 2 years, but 46-24 overall?!

No wonder USC fans wanted him gone. On retrospect, it's surprising he lasted this long.

Campbell and Fickell will be the hot names based on the uncertainty regarding what type of revenue the B-12 gets with its next TV contract. Franklin will allow his name to be in play if for no other reason than to get another extension from PSU.

While I know Helton has been on and off the hot seat for nearly his entire tenure, making a change at this point in the season is just another example of bad management by an athletic department. Did the AD think they were going undefeated this year? Yeah Stanford looked bad against K-State in their opener but to make a change two games in is dumb. They should have let him go at the end of last season if his rope was this short.

These types of moves just feed the narrative that colleges make tons of money on athletics and why students should be getting a piece of the pie.

He’s been on the hot seat perennially, when I posted the college scores for this past weekend I even mentioned Helton hot seat already and sure enough he’s out. Didn’t think he would go so soon but probably near the end or end of the season.

The stupidity of taking USC by themselves is mind boggling. Shows that people don't understand the industry at all.

UCLA fans are hoping Southern Cal goes with one of the two hottest coaches out there—Kyle Flood or Chris Ash.

Do you follow the issues with the PAC 12 network? They are making crap? Big difference. USC doesn't bring Rutgers money in.
The PAC-12 Network issues is because the commissioner at the time, Larry Scott, was about as strategic as Kevin Warren (warning to B1G members, whose ADs and Presidents don't seem to have figured this out yet) with regard to selling deal (e.g., talked about China expansion at one time baffling everyone as to strategic reason for it with regard to money flow). New commissioner (George Kliavkoff) has a stronger handle on league and what contract going forward need to lookin like. He's taking Delaney's approach of keeping the league solidified, including running things through USC and Oregon (similar to Ohio State / Michigan St).

Chris Petersen will kill it there.

For those who want Franklin to leave, we are better with him at PSU
Huntin' & fishin' in SoCal ain't like Washington & Idaho ~ L.A. ain't his style but, it very much is James Franklin's style.

PSU is ranked 10th and has the 2nd rated recruiting class for 2022, others could certainly do worse.

Not that they'd want Schiano, but the PAC12 offers certainly an easier path to the playoff for him or Franklin or any current HC in the SEC not named Saban.

I think Meyer is not going to be long for the NFL and will join a long list of very successful college coaches who can’t hack it in the NFL. It’s a different situation when every team has players and the talent gap is very thin week to week. As for USC, I think Fickell will wind up there with his close relationship with the AD. He will toughen them up and get that defense to top level. Cristobal is a similar basic, fundamental coach.

If USC wants to entice Christobal, they should be recruiting his wife who may prefer the LA area to Eugene. She seemed to wield significant influence when he turned us down.

I don't think Schiano is going anywhere. I think he knows he is home here. Now Franklin has been rumored for the USC job before and I could see him leaving. Not sure USC wants him. Urban would have been the perfect fit.

I think Fickell makes a lot of sense, especially when he is in a situation not a lot of coaches have, where he can actually leave a school and create almost no bad feelings because he didn’t leave until he accomplished what the school vitally needed (getting them into a better conference).

Fickell to me seems to be a midwest low key kind of guy. I could see him waiting for the OSU job once Day leaves for the NFL. In regards to Campbell, I could be wrong but don't see him at USC. He's another midwest guy that can wait for a bigger job (ex. Michigan) when it opens. Although he has a good thing going at ISU, the B12 situation makes me think he will make a move at some point.

I don’t know that Fickell has the luxury of waiting for the OSU job.

Not only is there no indication that Day has big desires to move to the NFL (and the rumblings already starting about Meyer would make college coaches more nervous about jumping), Fickell’s stock might never be this high again because it is going to be harder to stand out in their new conference (it may not have the headliners, but there will be many more solid teams in the new B12 than there are in the AAC).

If the younger up and comers like Fickell and Campbell stay put, maybe Bob Stoops. He’s at Fox now and he seems like he could still have the hankering to coach at 61 given his XFL stint. He did a good job hiring one OC after another with his last being das wunderkind Lincoln Riley so as long as he doesn’t hire his brother Mike to run the D lol he could be good. If not him the other brother Mark has done a nice job at Kentucky.

I think it’s going to end up Campbell, but I could see Mario, Stoops, or Franklin. Urban isn’t leaving Jacksonville, and Moorhead is not getting that job. I don’t see Peterson liking LA.

Sporting News lists the top candidates for USC. Stoops seems like a solid choice to me. As for Urban, how soon could he take the job? His coaching staff in Jacksonville is already unhappy with him. Could he jump ship from Jacksonville immediately?

Helton has been on the hot seat for awhile if he really wanted USC he could’ve signaled it. If he leaves the NFL I feel like he’d go back to tv. Never know for sure though, I suppose he could pull a Saban Miami to Alabama.

Let's see how long it takes before he steps down because of chest pains at Jacksonville because he can't treat grown men the same as college teenagers....then watch him end up the best open job in CFB

My guess is he'll go there, managing to then have held the easiest recruiting job in 3 of the power conferences.

He can win there for a little bit until he finds one last cure for his chest pain in South Bend.

USC is considering one of the Holy Grails of College Football jobs.

USC is despite their recent years still one of the all time blue bloods in college football.

Even if USC was interested, I don’t see Schiano making a move. He loves Rutgers and seems pretty committed to the build.
