I don’t know what Tony’s goals are, but he’s on the shortlist to becoming a head coach by staying the course. It actually benefits him more to be mentored by a guy like Matt Rhule’s, so he learns all of the characteristics needed to be a head coach. I don’t think he’s some dummy looking to cash a big check. It’s about a standard of excellence. You go to USC or someplace like that, you’re just a mercenary.Sounds like they may try and go after Tony White hard. Lock him up!
It was the same DC. Alex Grinch!Lincoln Riley didn’t have a good defense at Oklahoma and it’s followed him to USC, I think being a defensive coordinator for him is a carrier ender
1. Call me up when someone comes over to your house to offer you a 1 million dollar raise. Was this being reported? That USC is coming after him?Sounds like they may try and go after Tony White hard. Lock him up!

Nope. I've seen chatter in a lot of places. The Athletic had an article, Adam Brennaman and a number of other sports reporters are starting to talk about it. I'll try and find some of the ones I saw last night. Not saying it will happen, but he is going to be very high on the list.According to who? I think it’s just one sports writer who came up with his own list of potential candidates which included White, no?
Yeah, there is always this weird romanticized idea about things like this. Like, Tony White who has been in Lincoln for what, 6 months, is so taken by the place that he would never leave.1. Call me up when someone comes over to your house to offer you a 1 million dollar raise. I want to watch you turn it down.
2. "You go To USC or someplace like that, you're just a mercenary". Since 2000, USC has had 10 Defensive Coordinators? Guess how many the Huskers had during that same period? You got it, 10. Wonder what fans say about coaches leaving their school to go to Nebraska?
Bottom line as I wrote yesterday. Trev needs to throw a boatload of money at Tony so he can say to his agent, "Tell the USC guys I am not interested".
Having lived in CA, they better adjust that total to be after taxes. I moved out of there and turned down a number of lucrative jobs in CA because the tax is so ****** high across the board except property tax.Yeah, there is always this weird romanticized idea about things like this. This is not a Hallmark Xmas movie where the dude from the "big city" gets stranded in Christmas Town, and falls in love with the town and the hot coffee shop owner and turns his back on his big time job to open a cookie factory.
I get he makes great money now but going from 1 million to 2 million, is something you are not turning down, none of us would.

I think you're right. We can counter offer and match about anyone but it's going to come down to his personal feelings about how much he likes it here.Nice thing about Hallmark Xmas movies is you never know how they're going to end...keeps ya guessing the entire time. We love em
We have the money in spades to keep him, but he also has to want to stay. I'll be super curious how this plays out.

So now we can match anybody but we don't have NIL?
Amen to that!Having lived in CA, they better adjust that total to be after taxes. I moved out of there and turned down a number of lucrative jobs in CA because the tax is so ****in high across the board except property tax.
Different pools of money. So now we can match anybody but we don't have NIL?

Sorry, there is just so much stuff made up on this message board I have to start out cynical. The report is White is in a list of

Or we can blow up the stadium for the shear hell of it for 450 million. The moves coming from the AD's office has been mind boggling. So now we can match anybody but we don't have NIL?
Have you not been listening? The $450 mil, or any AD money for that matter, cannot be used for NIL. Period.Or we can blow up the stadium for the shear hell of it for 450 million. The moves coming from the AD's office has been mind boggling.
It can if you way overpay the construction guys on the condition THEY put most of their comp into NIL.Have you not been listening? The $450 mil, or any AD money for that matter, cannot be used for NIL. Period.
Yep. You know who never had an assistant poached? Frost. Riley.I would rather the NU staff be wanted by other teams.
The alternative is never good.
Creative thinking here! Love it. But it wont happen. It can if you way overpay the construction guys on the condition THEY put most of their comp into NIL.
LOL, good call, cuz he sucked at Syracuse. If White wants to leave after 1 year and be a mercenary, then **** him. I don't think he's as responsible for the defense's success as claimed. We have a good group of players on that side of the ball, and I'd attribute the improvement at least as much, if not more, to the position coaches. We're also playing in the Big 10, and it's pretty standard to play good defense in this conference. I think we'll be fine either way, but yes we should match any reasonable offer if USC makes it.
Have you watched Nebraska play defense for the last 20 years? I strongly disagree with your statement. If White wants to leave after 1 year and be a mercenary, then **** him. Seems like you're over simplifying what's actually going on there.Or we can blow up the stadium for the shear hell of it for 450 million. The moves coming from the AD's office has been mind boggling.
Hey, I took care of this last night. I emailed Trev to ask him to open up the bank and pay White. I am not sure my email will get past an administrative assistant, but I did it anyway.Nebraska isn't going to have any problem giving the man a raise to match the type of money he would earn at USC or any other program.
The bigger challenge will revolve around whether he wants to stay at Nebraska.
smart, competitive coaches don't think like message board posters. these guys know in their heart they're going to be great wherever they go.Smart DCs know with an offense like Riley's you will never look great.
This. He's building here. $$$ wise our program can match anyone.smart, competitive coaches don't think like message board posters. these guys know in their heart they're going to be great wherever they go.
i'm not particularly worried about losing Tony White to anything that isn't NFL or a HC gig. Satterfield gets to be one of the highest paid OC's because he arguably made a lateral move. Syracuse ---> Nebraska is a clear promotion and that's why he wasn't immediately given a brinks truck.
unless he hates living in Nebraska, there's no reason for him to leave. the identity of the team is tied to hardnosed defense. he has a better chance of eventually becoming the coach here than he would at USC.
DC's in the B10 have in recent history been looked at in a better light due to slower ran offenses with less possessions. I don't think he leaves that quickly - tie is that he coached HS ball for a year in LA. Of course he played college in LA (UCLA).smart, competitive coaches don't think like message board posters. these guys know in their heart they're going to be great wherever they go.

probably some truth to that, though the teams that USC struggles with are ones like Notre Dame & Utah, who play the closest to B1G football of their competition.DC's in the B10 have in recent history been looked at in a better light due to slower ran offenses with less possessions. I meant it would be incentive for him to leave if he really liked living in LAprobably some truth to that, though the teams that USC struggles with are ones like Notre Dame & Utah, who play the closest to B1G football of their competition.
idk if i buy the theory that he'd avoid USC solely based on being a UCLA alum. everyone knows USC is the big brother of that state.
