We're competitive. We're in the top 20-25 in the world. It would be awesome if State would regularly be in the top 20 in the nation. We're just not top 10. Maybe not even top 15. We regularly make it out of group play. Italy has missed the last three World Cup. We've also gotten better as obesity rates have increased. It takes longer to get better at soccer than at any other major sport. Most kids in America play soccer for fun and we largely have a pay to play system. Should we get a bunch of young kids to drill fanatically like they do in Europe? Soccer is incredibly popular in Africa and, as I mentioned earlier, Europe colonized Africa. That helps.
Have you been to Italy? It’s beautiful and the food is amazing but there are no young people.

Europe isn't reproducing itself. Neither is Asia. We're not far behind
True. I read that a society needs parents to have 2.1 children on average in order to maintain growth (simple math, makes sense). Italy is about 1.3, so they are fading fast. The US is about 1.8, so we need to get cracking.

I might argue that if we get our immigration fixed and get back to letting in other countries’ best and brightest rather than their criminals, we’d be fine at that reproduction number. Top notch immigrants are often better for the country than home growns.
