Beat Senegal 3-2 in their first tuneup before World Cup starts in less than 2 weeks. Both teams played a lot of players but USA was the better team throughout. 3 goals & had a couple more narrowly disallowed. Neither team looked particularly good defensively. Senegal is a legitimately good team. Ranked #14 & best team in Africa with some top European league players, including Sadio Mane who is one of the best forwards in the world. Overall best performance by USA I’ve seen in a long time.

I had a fantasy about getting a ticket to ANY WC game in Atl. When they went on sale, it was ignorant. Im not really sure who they want in the stadium at all other than people who will drop 1500 on the worst seat in the house.

Overall, the defense was fine in the first 1/2. I think most issues came in the second 1/2 when just about the whole team was subbed.

The MF has got to stop giving the ball up in our end of the field.

Yeah. I thought for years there’s no way I would not see a few games live. When they went on sale I said 17 that.

FIFA has tried to publicly defend ticket prices. It’s silly. I’m going to a second round game in KC. Our seats are in the upper deck on the 40 and are $235/ticket. We were selected in the wraffle. We will get to see the 1 seed from the Portugal/Columbia group though.

The US looked good today against a good Senegal team. I think we start our best 11 against Germany in the next friendly. I don’t quite get why Poch played Berhalter over McKennie…

I got in to Atlanta on the secondary market for under $200. But obviously it’s not the greatest seats in the house. And its Morocco/haiti. At least Morocco has some decent players. It’s one of those, you do it because when will the next opportunity come, but definitely surprised at the ticket prices.

Our defense is going to really test my patience this go around. It’s the worst I can remember. But our attacking might be the best it’s ever been.
Yeah they’re going to have to go all out on scoring goals. Their defense is atrocious.

It’s not that we are consistently bad on defense, it’s that a couple of times a game we make mistakes a local u-12 girls soccer team would make.

if we can clean up the egregious errors we could be at least average in the back and that should be good enough to get out of group play.

I don’t know man. We’re pretty consistently awful. Not bad. Awful.

As always, I hope every team that has a Liverpool player gets knocked out early and that none of them get hurt. That is my only real interest in international soccer.

You don't care if the US wins at all?
No, I don't like international soccer. All it is good for is getting players from your club hurt. It also keeps them from having a proper off season to rest and recover. I'll probably watch a little bit of it just because it's on. My main interest is that nobody from Liverpool gets hurt.

I don't get that at all. I wonder if you asked the players if they like representing their country in the World Cup, what they would say. Is "For club and country" just out the window in favor of money? I guess I don't know what the answer would be, but it would be a pretty big disappointment if they chose to skip representing the US in favor of 'resting' for their overseas club.

To me, this is similar to the Olympics - hopefully it's an honor to represent your country and to help us show well on the world stage. I guess they could each say they don't care about the US, it's all about the money, etc. but man I can't imagine MJ, Magic or Bird saying they didn't care about winning with the Dream Team. Or Michael Phelps saying "17 the gold medals - I just want to get some rest for my club team season". That would be unimaginable.

But times change, I guess.

I'm not a player. I'm just not a fan of the international game. To me all it does is interfere with the part of the game I am a fan of. You will find that is a quite common sentiment among Liverpool fans. It's not the even the highest level of the game when it comes to level of play. The top clubs in Europe would destroy most if not all national teams. Those teams are basically all star teams composed of the best international players, and they aren't limited to just one country. They also play together all the time, not just 5-6 times a year.

if you follow club football at a high level it's easier to understand my view. The season is about 3-4 weeks old, all of a sudden it's put on hold and nearly all of your players depart to the four corners of the earth to play for someone else. One or two come back carrying injuries and they all come back tired. This happens 4-5 times a season. It isn't just in the World Cup year either, it's every year. If it's not qualifying for something it's meaningless international friendlys.
