Here is to hoping Tiger shoots a 70 and misses the cut. And that David Duval plays well and that Phil lights it up in the 3rd round.

b/c if his name was Phil Mickelson, Padraig Harrington, Retief Goosen, etc, etc, etc and he was 12 shots off the lead you wouldn't see every single one of his shots. You probably wouldn't see any of them. They wouldn't break in to Sportscenter to show him hit the ball. It is simply nauseating.

They'd simply spend the next two days talking over and over about how Tiger missed only his __th major cut of his career and his first since ____.

Players on tour wouldn't make 1/2 of what they do now if it wasn't for Tiger. He pays the bills, the TV contract was for him. Not for some unknown to come in and win the US Open, ala Ben Curtis or Todd Hamilton at the Open Championship.

If Tiger isn't involved in the drama at the US Open last year, everyone couldn't care less.

Edited to add: With all that being said, I hope they can do something to toughen the course. It is too soft with all the rain. This keeps up and the winning score is going to look like they played the Bob Hope at PGA West this weekend.

were good enough to be #1 in the world and would have won double digits majors AND won last year's Open in perhaps the most dramatic fashion in history, maybe they'd garner a mention.

As it stands now.. they're just not good enough.

I don't hate Tiger because the media follows him.

Phil may be the 2nd best golfer on tour, but he damn sure isnt a Trevino, Player, Watson, or some of those other top guys from back when Jack played.

Yeah, he's only won 12 Majors this decade....why the <17> would they want to talk about him?

I'm sure NBC and all the advertisers hope he misses it as well, considering ratings will drop over 50% if he is not in contention.

1. when he first burst onto the scene, everything was about how him being black put him at such a disadvantage and how golf was a racist sport... ******** on that.. and tiger milked that crap with commercials with him talking about all these courses that he would have been refused entry into because of his skin color....rule 17 that crap too....

I'm sick of all that...

2. I don't like his antics when he's winning.. I prefer a cool attitude.... just tip the hat and don't react like you just slam dunked a basketball.... and for the record,,, I was at the St Jude when Dickey Pride won it watching him react in the same way turned me off ..... Furik does the same **** and I don't like that prick either...

it's golf.....

3. and yes... the media blows him repeatedly and if he were white, it wouldn't be as bad...

so yes... when he sucks, I enjoy it... too bad I don't get to enjoy it enough

You like it when people make golf more boring than it already is? Golf needed somebody with a fire and attitude.

Also, the initial media attention might not have been as heavy when he first got on the tour if he were white, but he's the greatest damn golfer of all time. If they media didn't focus most of their attention on him they would be dropping the ball.

..and you would too, if you knew me in my personal life.

But on topic #1.... was any of that not true, or did we simply not like to hear it because it cast us country club types in a bad light? And in any case, suddenly the best golfer in the world was not white. It was a huge story. The national media tends to pay the most attention to the huge stories.

And let me edit to add... When he burst onto the scene EVERYTHING said about him was not about him being black. Now, you come across so jaded that perhaps all you remember from his early years are the race stories, but he was being covered from every angle possible. Not just the race angle, though obviously it was a component. Hell, the guy had just won 6 junior amateurs in a row.

On topic #2... That's your opinion and you're entitled to it. However, if I just chipped in on hole 16 at Augusta to seal the Masters, the gyrations that would commence would be obscene.

On topic #3... I read that to mean if he were white it wouldn't be as bad to you that the media pays so much attention to him. I don't really know what to say to that.

First of all Tiger Woods is by far the most exciting and greatest golfer of all time, he is never out of a tournament especially not one where he is still playing his second round. Second the rain screwed up the schedule of the tournament and there was only half the field playing today so there wasn't many options for them. I would like to see every single shot that he takes and there are many many many more like me than there are that don't want to see him. The man is money plain and simple. If you need an example think about this, Nike gave him $100 million dollars to be there man 12 years ago, Nike had never been involved with golf before him. Now they sell millions and millions of dollars of golf shirts, hats, clubs, balls, gloves etc... The same can be said about the amount of money that all the players are now making as well as the t.v. stations and the sponsors. Everyone involved with golf is making way more money than they ever have before and it is because of Tiger Woods. With all of that said they will now and in the future continue to suck Tiger Woods dick all day long on t.v. and you and I get to watch:)

No matter how much the Chicago Bulls, Nike, or whoever paid him, he was worth ten times his salary in positive publicity and sales revenue. Same thing with Tiger Woods. Tiger has brought a whole new demographic to golf, and now it's more than 8-figure investment bankers watching tournaments.

in golf... it was like "despite the racism, I was able to overcome.."... that's ********... you don't have to be a member of some all white elite country club to excel in golf...

blacks have their all black clubs as well.... does the media put them in a bad light?....do you?

I don't mind a little emotion on the golf course... it's the angry variety I just don't personally care for.. that's just me

I enjoy watching him play... when he's not playing, I'm much less interested in the tourney in fact....

I prefer to watch him get beat... glad he's 11 down... I hope to one day see him lip one out and miss a cut

stick to basketball. first off, do you actually watch golf? sure there may not be some elite class of 5 or six golfers, but there are a bunch of fine golfers out there. furthermore, tiger has played against vijay singh, padraig harrington, phil mickelson, angel cabrera, retief goosen, paul casey, jim furyk, and he is also looking forward to challenges by anthony kim, danny lee, and camilo villegas. honestly, what you made is a laughable, nostalgic, ill-informed assumption. just because there was a few who dominated at the top doesn't mean jack about the overall quality of the competition. alright, i'll concede, there was no dominant 5, but are 20 or so players that are at the top of the pga and thats why the pga is better now than it was during the time of jack arnie and player.

Jack play golf but I can't stand to listen to him commentate. On another point, the top five golfers today would beat the brakes off of your Trevino's from the 60's.

Really? When was the last time you heard or read a "I shall overcome" type quote from Tiger? I would like to see or hear it because I haven't heard him mention an such thing in a very long time. All I have ever heard him say was that he was happy/disappointed with his game making a (Rule 1-G) comment about his competitors.

I don't think he hung the moon and stars but I do think he is a much better player/person/competitor than you are giving him credit for. But if it gives you the jollies to say he is a black-power, egotist then more power to you dude.

there is not an elite group of golfers today, making it easier for Tiger to win. Tiger is great, and might be the best ever. But the guys on tour today make it much easier on him than it would have been in Jack's day.

Jack also came along hitting it farther than the guys on tour like Tiger did. The difference though was that there were a few elite golfers to make sure he couldnt just totally dominate

If you go back and look at all the tourneys, Tiger has never come from behind in a major. He also has never had anybody he was neck and neck with in a tourney throw a 68 or 67 on him to make him beat them. The tour is a bunch of weak vaginas today. They have no marbles.

commercials in the beginning... I will agree that you don't hear that from him anymore....

d right now and will prolly go down as the greatest....when he's not playing, I'm less interested in the tourney, what else do you want?

I prefer to see people win and make good shots with smiles on their faces and tipping their hats to the crowd.... I call it respect for the game as opposed to being self absorbed in themselves..

Personally, I am pulling for Mickelson this weekend simply because of his situation, although I wouldn't mind seeing the leader keep it going seeing as he was on the Nationwide circuit last season.

I know, I hate when he brings his kids out on the green after a big win because he wants to be as big an inspiration to his kids as his father was to him. It also annoyed me to no end when he broke down after winning his first major after the death of his fater. Who does he think he is?

That is incorrect. In both the 4th round and the 18 hole playoff the next day of last year's US Open , Tiger came into the 18th trailing by a stroke and made birdie both times. As We all know He won the tourney on the next hole and did so on an injured leg that would have kept most players out of the tourney.

That BS about Jack facing tougher competition is just wishfull thinking on the part of you Tiger haters who know that crap is all you will have to hang on to when Tiger wins his 19th major.

No argument from me there. There are some cool guys out there like Rocco and Bubba Watson. The only problem is that they're rarely on the leaderboard. The game's best are pretty feminine. However, any time you incorporate European players in any sport, that's what you'll end up with.

Tiger shot a 17'ing 73 last year to tie for the Open...a 17'ing 73.....that is pathetic...fact remains he has never started Sunday from behind and won a major- that says alot about him.

The fact that no player tied or a shot back from him has ever shot a 69 or 68 on Sunday also shows how weak today's tour is...it happened a few times in Jack's day...Jack played with a better group of players and its not even close

Tiger has won roughly 25% of the majors he has been in- more or less...seems like he needs to come from behind 75% of the time- yet he never has...

earlier you said tiger was far and away the best (maybe the best ever) and the other players around him make it easier for him to win. now he can't come from behind. which is it? i think it says a lot about your intellect that you need to make two opposing arguments to make your pathetic, crotchety point. do you watch golf besides the majors? do you play? what do you shoot if you do?

look, there's always been a pretty solid group of players gunning for tiger, in a way, he produces his own competition by giving players something to shoot for. just look at phil, he lost weight just to keep up. on tigers watch, golf became a sport, and players want to beat him more now than ever before, and they are all better for it. need some evidence, look at how people now readily acknowledge golf as a sport now, note how designers tiger proof their courses, and lengthen them to keep him from victimizing their length.

You're dumber than dirt and more stubborn than a mule. If it weren't for one or the other, there might be hope for you. But with that combination you are doomed.
