Slow rainy Saturday thread. Not asking for political input or anything to get this locked up, just a general consensus of opinion. Saying investigation will conclude tomorrow. Does he survive?

ETA: I think he does

Of course he survives, he's a winner with upside. If he was losing at Ohio State he'd have been fired as soon as allegations were made.

Yes he will survive. They’ll have someone take the bullet for him. His wife will probably take blame and say she never told Urban or showed him the texts. He’ll get suspension

If they need a fall guy, it will be the AD. No way Urban is fired.

I heard a reporter say the AD is a survivor and outlasted the previous coach and university President, the reported said don't expect for the AD to take the fall. With all that, I think Urban stays also.

Yes he survives and he should. It was dumb AF for people to call for him being fired in the first place.

If Urban is fired at Ohio State, Matt Luke needs to have an impressive season on the plantation for sure...

I pretty much agree with that. Based on some other stories that are coming out, the coach was a bit of a pervert as well.

The only way he’ll get fired is if he’s caught with a dead girl or live boy

Did I get it right HD?

Wrong

seems a live boy is perfectly acceptable these days.

As well as a bunch of other stuff...that can't be talked about.

Seriously? It's dumb to fire a coach for covering up domestic abuse and protecting the abuser? What kind of sick 17 are you?

If he survives, it will be at a price. Recruiting is going to take a hit. And keep in mind this is a dude that retired, unretired, then retired again at a school where he won 2 national titles just because of “health concerns” over him not being able to take the heat from the fanbase for a few down years after Tebow. How is that guy going to hold it together from the downfall of him covering for a domestic abuser for a minimum of 3 years? If he somehow survives, it’s going to still be a beautiful disaster. The part of me that really hates Ohio State for some irrational reason kinda hopes he does.

Why? If they wanted a fallen from grace OSU coach, they could have had Jim Tressel already instead of Luke. If Meyer is fired, it will be for reasons that make him completely unhireable by any FBS schools ever again.

Wish I could be that optimistic. If he survives OSU won't miss a beat. Look at Pedophile U. They're barely removed from that whole fiasco and already back like it never even happened. This won't even be a blip on the OSU radar by October if he stays as coach. They'll beat University of the Sacred Sisters 77-0 opening weekend and it's all forgotten.

That’s exactly my point though...PSU survived and thrived only after cleaning house. All the bad apples were gone. It’s not like JoePa has been leading them to all this recent success. I think OSU does the same IF they move past the Meyer / Smith distraction by getting rid of Meyer. Ryan Day is a brilliant offensive mind that is easily capable of coaching them to 10-11 wins or so at a minimum. That’s enough to get them in the CFP picture, and him some consideration as permanent HC. Or, they could reel in an even bigger fish after the season and just keep humming along.

But if they hang onto Meyer, he is going to be the unquestioned super villain of college football for the duration of his tenure. Will be called a liar and a wife beater supporter on the recruiting trail by opposing coaches and from the stands by opposing fans (and just think of the College Gameday signs). He doesn’t have the mental or emotional fortitude to handle it...just look at how quickly he tucked his tail and ran after Tebow left UF. If he stays, OSU will become 2010 Florida in very short order.

Oh JC I’m a sick 17 because I don’t think Urban deserves to be fired for his assistant coach’s Personal life? GTFOH. It’s so funny how people are mad at the wrong guy. Why isn’t anyone mad at the police who did nothing when she called? They either didn’t find her credible enough to do anything about it or they dropped the ball. What about the lawmakers? Instead the dumb 17 outrage society like yourself and others is mad at urban for staying in his lane. People act like urban went to her and conned her into not going to the police or paying off the police to keep quiet. They 17ing knew! She stayed with him for 6 YEARS after the first incident which was supposedly him shoving her into the wall by her shirt. Ok why did she stay for 6 More years if it was so horrible? She’s either A. Stupid or B. Likes to embellish the story. Question if you stuck your hand in a fire and got burned but you kept going back for 6 years and sticking your hand in the fire (hoping for a different result) would you consider yourself a victim or stupid? The proper authorities knew. The only people who didn’t know were me, you, joe blow ******* on the Internet, and the damn media.

You’re kidding yourself if you think Ohio State Recruiting is going to take a hit. They will continue to recruit top 10 classes no matter what. Book it.

Look, if there is indisputable evidence that Meyer tried to cover it up, that’s one thing, but what if he reported it as he said he did.

I’m not saying he did, but I’m asking what if he followed all protocol. Do you think he should be fired?

It’s very plausible he knew and reported it as he should have. It’s plausible that it was investigated, and they didn’t have enough to fire him.

I mean clearly the police didn’t have enough to arrest him. I get the deal with domestic violence and being the victim, but if the victim doesn’t press charges, why should the employer?

So when Urban told the press he never heard of the 2015 incident and suggested it was a lie, he was trying to cover it up... Or he is just a liar .. or an idiot. If he was truly trying to stay out of it "No Comment" or "I will refer you to AD..." At best an idiot for stirring all this crap up, at worst an enabling POS.

Now as for you and your comments, take a lap and don't talk about the subject anymore.. If you don't think abused women have stayed with violent men unless they are lying or stupid, you are unbelievably ignorant on the subject. The police are often unable to make an arrest if by the time they show up, she's convinced it will be safer/better to not press charges.

He either didn’t know about it or wasn’t expecting the question. Either way that wasn’t the time to come out half cocked and lay it out then. Secondly it doesn’t matter because he doesn’t owe anyone a damn thing about the matter publicly. No I’m not taking a lap. You’re wrong. It’s 2018 not 1920. Women can do anything a man can do. Women aren’t stupid. They are statistically smarter as a whole than men. She’s a grown adult woman who can think for herself. Not a 5 year old child or a mentally challenged vulnerable adult.

Hey I know abused women have stayed with men because they believe there isn’t a way out but that is STUPID because there is. It’s not victim shaming either. It’s pointing out that you made a poor decision and you should have known better because you’re an able minded adult. She’s only a victim of her poor decision making. Yeah that little BS scenario you just cooked up doesn’t hold water for the police. Most of the time if police get called for domestic violence someone is going to jail. They either didn’t find it credible or dropped the ball. That’s it. There is a laundry list of people to blame, if this story is credible, before you get to Urban Meyer but dumb 17s the country over want to solely blame the HC of a football team. It’s so 2018 it hurts.

The bold parts are an argument we can have.. I think any CEO that brought this kinda stain on a company, would be canned. Heavy lies the crown.

The underlined parts are an argument we will not have any further. I have more training, experience, and knowledge than you on the matter.

You’re kidding yourself if you think Ohio State Recruiting is going to take a hit. They will continue to recruit top 10 classes no matter what. Book it.

Only recruiting in the Top 10 would be a huge hit for them, given that they have been a Top 3-4 recruiter year in and year out under Meyer. And, they still find a way to get blown out occasionally by teams that aren’t even Top 25 recruiters (like Iowa and Virginia Tech a few years ago). You think if Bama only signed the 10th best class each year for the past decade under Saban that they would be nearly the force that they have been under Saban? Hell no.

And again, look at what happened at Florida. Muschamp went 13-11 in the SEC with Meyer’s players the first 3 years there. He’s currently just about matching that with burned out Steve Spurrier’s last few classes at USC (8-8 in 2 years).
