Urban Meyer’s first season in the NFL is not going well.

That’s true both on the field and off; Meyer’s Jaguars are 2-10 and Meyer was the subject of an embarrassing incident early this season when he was caught on video dancing intimately with a woman who is not his wife. And it has apparently not gotten better more recently.

According to Tom Pelissero of NFL Network, Meyer has been involved in ugly incidents at the team facility within the last two weeks.

One incident involved a heated argument between Meyer and veteran receiver Marvin Jones, who was so angry with Meyer that he left the team facility and had to be convinced to return by other staff members.

Another incident featured a staff meeting that had Meyer ripping into his assistant coaches, calling them losers and asking them to explain what they’ve ever won.

The report also casts doubt on Meyer’s claim that he wasn’t behind the benching of running back James Robinson last week and that Meyer delegates the running back rotation to his staff. According to the report, it was actually Meyer who ordered Robinson’s benching after a fumble. Robinson later went back into the game because quarterback Trevor Lawrence questioned Meyer on the sideline about why the team’s leading rusher wasn’t playing.

PFT has contacted the Jaguars to request a comment on the report.

None of it reflects well on Meyer or the culture he’s creating in Jacksonville. And it raises questions about whether Meyer will be able to turn the franchise around.

Plenty of reports that he has zero respect in the building. He benches James Robinson, their best player and then repeatedly lies about it and blames others. He lied to the team about spending time with grandkids when he didn’t fly back with them and stayed around Ohio to get some fingerbanging action in. His offensive schemes are the joke of the NFL. Yea, he’s a clown.

Maybe another example of how a successful college coach has a difficult time in the nfl....probably all about the "control" factor. It's happened before, even with Saban. There's a pretty good list.

It seems like everywhere he goes, he is involved in some sort of tomfoolery...

1. At Florida, he quit for a few days but changed his mind and decided to only take a leave of absence. He ended up quitting for health reasons a year later.
2. The admin leave / suspension for the Zach Smith ordeal. The he quit for health reasons, again.
3. The recent groping fiasco after his team's 0-4 start.

He is one of the better college coaches of recent times, but that is a whole bunch of drama for a period of only 10-11 years. Sounds like he just needs to read books on the beach or something.

Yeah this is why Saban, or any college coach for that matter, isn’t even in the discussion of greatest coaches ever. When everybody gets an even shot at the talent, the truly great coaches can separate themselves. When your players make more money than you, and you still have to be able to motivate and lead them, that’s whole other level of coaching. Belichick, Tomlin, Reid, and the like are on another level from the college guys.

I think the entire article explains why he’s a clown. Adding to that, the incredibly dumb decision to burn a 1st round pick on a RB when they already had a 3 down workhorse RB who was only entering his 2nd year in the league.

When your players make more money than you, and you still have to be able to motivate and lead them, that’s whole other level of coaching. Obviously Saban is one of the greatest coaches ever….it’s silly to suggest otherwise. Its not any harder or easier to succeed in the NFL than college….its just a different skill set. You have to be able to delegate more and micromanage less. You have to be flexible with game management from week to week and have a philosophical match with your assistants from an X’s and O’s standpoint. In college, you have to be able to be a strong motivator and more of an authoritarian in most cases. You also have to be a salesman. Personnel management is also entirely different between the two. Trades / draft / salary cap world vs. the recruiting / NIL / transfer portal world. They are just two entirely different animals.

Like I said, its a different skill set. Alabama doesn’t have any more financial or facilities advantages that 12-15 other schools don’t also have. Saban gets the best players because of what he’s done on the field with the ones that came before them, the structure and discipline he puts around them, his ability to motivate, etc. You are narrowing down your definition of “coaching” to only what happens during the games. There’s way more to the job than that in both instances.

Urban Meyer knows more about football than everyone on this board combined. It so funny to listen to all the armchair experts talk about what he is doing wrong. You can’t argue with his success. He has had success everywhere he has been and it’s unreasonable to expect a complete turnaround in one year. Having said that he has won more games this year than the team won last year. What the 17 do you expect from the guy? To take a team that won one game last year to the Super Bowl. People are all jealous (me included) that he is getting grinded on by super hot blondes and that they are not. So a bunch of fatsos that can’t get any like talk crap on the internet, story as old as time. Maybe it won’t work in the NFL, but it’s probably to early to tell considering he hasn’t even coached a full season. A head coach reserves the right to bench any player at any time, especially on a team that has only won 3 games in 2 seasons. If I had been coaching football almost twice as long as my starting rookie qb has been alive I probably would be pretty pissed about being publicly questioned. Maybe just maybe the problems with Jacksonville existed before his arrival and they aren’t all his fault. My theory is based on the fact they only won one game last year. It’s possible that it was a **** show before he arrived, and that the problems there are not all his doing. Okay, rant over.

I don't know, but seems the whole article assumes urban is to blame on everything. Maybe he is, but I think that's an assumption
