I could be wrong, but it seems like SHU has been trying way harder to control the tickets to this game and had a harder time selling out vs. at Rutgers 2 years ago. Obviously different situations with the arena size.

I would be fine with giving SHU students a small section in the 300 level.

It’s definitely something that needs to be worked out because it makes the rivalry better.
They both did the same thing in just leaving all single game inventory in "presale only" until it sold out rather than ever publicly releasing tickets. Seton Hall has the addition of not opening the upper level (which is the same as 98% of home games), since that's obviously not a possibility for RU, but with how RU had been playing the demand for the upper level wasn't realistically there until last night anyway. 2 days isn't enough time to change that. I agree though, that it would be nice to mutually agree to allocate small percentage of tickets to opposing students again.

I remember the State Penn sliver of blue and white in the ‘89 A-10 game that went from the court all the way to the top.

Looked pretty cool.

Both schools used to do that every year and the visitors would send a couple busses of students up until Rutgers decided to end it 2 years ago and block SHU fans out instead. This is just SHU returning the favor. I agree, I would like to see it get back to how it used to be.
We were just continuing the pattern of them not being able to get into Rutgers

Predictions on the total amount of RU fans in the arena this Sunday? , seating capacity is 10,500
I was gonna say about 1k but that capacity doesn't include the Yuengling Bar area that they sold the Rutgers Alumni Association. Looks like that space maxes out at 350 depending on set-up so I'll assume they max that out then round up to 1,500.

Oh boo hoo! It's a rivalry game. This is part of it. These kinds of slights make it that much more intense.
Lol, ok. It would be more intense to have more fans there, SHU just knows it would be all red shirts.

Not all, but definitely enough to make it not worth their while. It's certainly not lost on the SHU administration that they're a small catholic university competing against the state land grant university. Population numbers simply aren't in their favor.

...and Seton Hall said "no." Which is their "right" as the home team, unfortunately, not much Hobbs could do here.
Heres the reality, SHU wants to end this series and therefore they have all the leverage. They wanna act like theyre worlds better than us not just this year but as a program. They understand the torture chamber the RAC is and that its not easy to win there. Their narrative and pitch falls apart when we keep knocking them off at home. They dont want to play us

The one thing I will disagree with is on demand for the 2nd level.

If that was opened up awhile ago at normal prices they would have sold a lot of tickets, even before Rutgers started off poorly.

There wasn’t demand yet because the general public couldn’t buy seats or they had to go through ticket master and pay over $100 a ticket for the bottom level.

I got in on that because it seemed like a solid deal compared to what resale tickets were going for, but I have no idea what to actually expect. Do you happen to know if it’s a decent area to watch the game from?

You're not wrong. And it's great for both of our programs that this is even a discusssion. It really wasn't even all that long ago that this game wasn't selling out in either building.

I've never sat there myself, but based on similar areas in other arenas I expect it will be excellent. With the one possible exception that there may not be enough stadium seats in there to match the capacity of the restaurant space. I don't know, in that case, if they handle it first-come-first-serve or if the seats are ticketed, but the possibility exists that you may be standing to watch the game.

Two days ago, the majority of posters on this board were ready to throw in the towel on this season but now you’re going to overtake another team’s home arena. Lol, ok. Either this is a joke or you have the greatest collection of bandwagon fans on the planet

Believe it or not… Rutgers has a lot of alum, it’d be fairly easy to get 5k to come to game in Newark on a weekend since it’s very easily accessible from NYC and North Jersey.

Cool. Your slight of chickening out last year and this move makes you guys just so PR smart. Thanks for running away making the chase to kick your *** more intense.

Lol, Its not like we're travelling across the country. Prudential center is 15 minutes from me. There are more Rutgers fans then Seton Hall fans in NJ. Also the cheapest tickets are $80 in the secondary market. That's ridiculous for fans of either team.

Just open up the top section so more fans can go. It's a fun rivalry, and you guys could benefit from the revenue. Also stop being a bunch of p*ssies.

If they opened the upstairs and sold tickets to the general public before the season started RU fans would have been eager to buy tickets . But SHU decided to not open it up and didn’t sell the RU game to the general public .

From article I read today

When Seton Hall’s schedule was finalized in the early fall, tickets for all games went up for public sale except one — the Rutgers game. For that one, tickets were sold internally only (to alumni and those with close ties to the school) until the past couple of weeks, when some became available on the secondary market.

just wanna keep RU fans out of the rock
or worse.. the insiders are scalping them for profit and opening the upper deck will harm their profit margins

why do we even bother playing them.. time to end this series.. they are just too damn needy.

It’s pretty clear if they sold this game to the public in preseason, Rutgers fans would’ve gobbled up a ton. RU had tons of preseason hype/excitement and the fanbase was ready for the next SHU rivalry game. Personally, like probably most here, I looked at the SHU site continuously for when they would finally go on sale…

I was at the 2019 game at the RAC and there was the normal amount of Hall fans in attendance, specifically in their normal school-allotted section behind the bench and up through the 200s/300s on that corner side. They were just real quiet after the first few minutes. And seriously, in a capped 8k arena when we did have some hype going in that 19-20 season, how many tix is SHU really expecting?

The Hall is good this year, and it’ll be hilarious if we win after all of this. I also had low expectations going into that 2019 game too :)

I was ready to throw in the towel...I live in Newark and just bought my ticket an hour ago. I'll be in scarlet. I'm a devils fan. It'll feel like home.

I could be wrong but I’m almost certain that the City of Newark earns around 1% of every dollar spent on ticket purchases at The Rock. Parking too.

The local bars and restaurants would also benefit from a few thousand more fans

Not opening the upper deck has implications for people and businesses in Newark.

Said it before I'll say it again, little league move by a little league program.
They rent for ***** sake - If I'm them, I'm maximizing $ for this game.

Open the upper tank, presell to SHU at first, then open to general public.
They need the money, **** their on campus facility has a freakin stage. Their facilities are subpar, they haven't had any real juice since they beat Nova in the BET finals, and before that was the early 2000's.

And they agreed to have this game on a Sunday night? Talk about getting handled, that's embarrassing.

While we ceartainly don't have the a history as a great program, we don't need them. We're in the B1G, and already have an extremely challenging schedule.

USF did this to FSU back in 2013-2014, not selling swarms of open seats. FSU immediately cancelled the series, as it's as bush league as it gets.

Given the amount of season tickets and presale to alumni and supporters of Seton Hall I’m guessing 5-10% of the crowd. Jerry Carino said something similar I believe.

It's very possible they have no confidence that they can sell that many tickets to SHU fans, even if they opened it to season ticket holders first. They know the upper deck would turn this into a Rutgers home game no matter how long they left it open for their own fans, because they just don't have the level of fan support to fill those seats.

Then advertise
Put them at $25-30 for SHU fans at the presale then $40-45 to general public

This is as little league as it comes. - if I’m Hobbs I’m legit pissed

Advertising and discounts aren't going to increase the size of their fan base that is willing to drive to Newark and watch a game on a Sunday.

They have an undergrad enrollment of less than 6,000, and a total enrollment of just about 10,000. Their alumni base is less than a fifth of ours, and I don't know how much their fandom spreads outside of their fan base and people who grew up in South Orange. They may just not have the butts to fill the seats, no matter the incentive.
