You are giving them too much credit. I don't think we even pass the ball 70% of the time. One guy shows he can dribble on the perimeter and then passes to another who shows the same. Seems to lead to nothing since none can take their opponent off the dribble. Whoever has it last chucks up a shot which most times is not a high quality look.

What exactly did we do this off-season other than lift weights? How is there so little progress from a guy like McConnell who is now an upperclassmen?

There was one possession where McConnell brought the ball up the court, dribbled back and forth outside the arc until the shot clock ran down, then hoisted a terrible 3.... without once passing the ball. It's one thing if your shot isn't falling.... it's another if you just seem to have no idea what you're doing out there.

If we need him in there for defense, there should be very clear red light/green light rules on what his role needs to be on offense for right now.

This was probably McConnell's worst career game. He's never before had a game where he's had 0 pts and 0 rbs while playing more than 5 minutes.... and he was in for 21. Was also his most career shots without points (0/6 with no FTA).

I think it's time to start really curtailing his minutes - like down into the 10-15 range.

Fans are asking for what exactly......which guard is able to dribble into a defender and maneuver to make a drive and kick, outside of Baker and RHJ....?? Maybe Jaden Jones, but we have not seen enough of him.

The harsh reality is Mulcahy and Caleb are not able to create their own offense, without taking a couple of dribbles or backing down a defender..... and even if you had a quicker guard like Jacob Young, if that guard is not a willing passer, you are just asking the guard to go 1 on 1 and create his own shot.

It is 4 games into a season but I think Hyatt and Jaden Jones solve a part of what's missing....and if you ask RHJ to really play guard (which is what happened in the 2nd half late), you need a more capable 3rd or 4th shooter like Jaden Jones on the floor.

I think Pike was reluctant to reveal what we all know that Paul and Caleb are really baseline shooters or wing/corner shooters.....asking them to create off the bounce is not their strength.

I think Jalen Miller could be a solution, but he then reduces the minutes of Caleb and Paul even more IF he is a different dimension.....I think the solutions are to ride with Caleb until he gets on track.....

Caleb's start is kinda like Jacob Young in 2019-20.....which was horrific and forgotten, but was really, really bad basketball.....I am a believer that Caleb can be put back on track, but it's not at the top of the key, it's on the baseline.

Our offense is a very raw one dimensional center in the middle and 4 players who stay stationary in quadrants around him passing the ball around the perimeter until the clock runs down and a contested three is hoisted. Alternatively, a player will isolate and try to beat their man usually after too much dribbling. It is a “system” as creative and fluid as a boulder.

Spot on comment.Its been awhile since Rutgers actually ran a offense with passing,screens and back door cuts to the basket.What is even worse is the team lacks players that create and make shots off the dribble.Mediocre recruiting and a downward trend in player development results in poor performances on the court.
