Been thinking about the players that came through over the years and stuck it out as seniors. Guys like Billy McCaffrey would not make this list. The guys I'm talking about are the ones who some have been all but forgotten. The ones who accepted their role. The ones who at one time may have started but because of better players coming in they took their place on the bench and contributed in the best way they could. There are a lot of them so fire away. My 1st nomination is Greg Koubeck. OFC.
Unsung Duke players.

Nate James is the first guy that comes to mind. As I recall, a freshman Chris Duhon replaced him in the starting lineup late in his senior year, but Nate was still instrumental to the title run.
He didn't come off the bench but Thomas Hill on the 91-92 teams was somewhat unsung, especially compared to Laettner, Grant, and Hurley. He may have played a part in McCaffrey bolting, because he was tougher and better. He was solid but just went out there and played the game.

I don't hate Paulus. I don't even dislike him. Why hate him. What did he do. He accepted losing his starting position. Didn't whine about it. My second unsung player. Greg Paulus. OFC

He only played one season at Duke, but I’ll always maintain Austin Rivers was unsung. He was clearly the best player on that team. One of the biggest issues was some of the veterans learning to accept that. All that said, not many Duke teams have went 8-0 on the road in the ACC. That one did.

This whole thread. I was joking in the everyone hates Greg but it was a big part of the discussion and pretty much the same thread.
David McClure- for all of his contributions and all his injuries
Sean Dockery- for adding that extra ball handler when needed
Lee Melchionni- for playing as a stretch 4 and hitting big 3's
Casey Sanders- for stepping up when the landlord got hurt

I kind of meant it in jest, but re-reading it I can see how one would think that way.
Saying that, Paulus wasn’t popular with his teammates at all. Guys like Tyler Thornton, Matt Jones, Miles Plumlee, etc., were all examples of kids, and captains, without star credentials, who were revered as teammates. Normally I would say rumors are rumors, but there were too many rumors with Greg from people in the know. That doesn’t mean he was a bad player.
