Looking for the absolute shock here. I'll start when Jay Ball was at O South with about 18 kids on varsity and were winless and beat a Top Five Creighton Prep team. At UNO I believe. Not even possible . South won by like ten?
Next for me would be the York win in Scottsbluff a couple of years ago. How crazy was that ?
Dig deep and ask your folks what game rocked the state over the years.

Not sure if it falls perfectly under the "unforgettable" category across the entire state, but in 2006 St. Cecilia knocked off what seemed to me (this was my freshman year of high school) as a heavily favored and higher rated Chase County team in Hastings by 1 point. St. Cecilia got 4 home playoff games that year and lost by 7 in the semi-finals to Valentine, who ended up losing to Auburn in overtime in the championship game on a missed extra point.

It was at Berquist (Norris Jr. High)....I was in the booth on the head set for that game. One of the worst experiences in my coaching career. They had a LB/FB named Barrientos who literally took the game over by himself. I believe he had nearly every tackle for Omaha South and ran for over 100yds to lead Omaha South to victory. I believe we finished the year 10-2 or 9-3 and were top 5 almost the whole season but Omaha South played a flawless game and earned a BIG victory for the school and the program....With all respect, it was nothing special on Jay's part so much as it was one of the best individual players' performances I have seen since I saw Jeff ? from Bellevue West who took over a game to win it in double overtime over someone big...Man I wish I remembered who that was but it was a HUGE deal...

Thanks,

2007 Elmwood-Murdock 3 Howells 0 in the second round of the playoffs in Howells. It was Howells last game playing 11 man football. I was there, for me it was unforgettable just because it was Howells, and seeing Howells lose didn't happen very often from 2000-2010.

CP was ranked #1 at the time. OS won 10-6 including a goal line stand to end the game.

Jeff Souder against Westside. Down 35-3 in the first half. Pretty much earned him a scholly to UNL which meant drug testing which meant no more scholly.....

Boone Central defeating Pierce in the 2001 state title game 9-7. Even though Matt Herian didn't play that was still a pretty big upset.

Jeff Sauter. Souder, my bad. You are not the only one who says this. Pretty much anyone who saw that game would agree.

Wynot beating Newcastle in the 2005 State Playoffs in the first round 14-6. 8-0 Newcastle gets beat by a 4-4 Wynot team who lost to the Red Raiders 39-8 during the regular season. I believe Newcastle was a #2 seed. It's not everyday when a #15 seed can pull off an upset like that.

Sargent defeating Howells in the 2011 championship game. Nobody gave Sargent a chance in hell and they found a way to scrap out a victory.

Bishop Neumann beat Columbus Scotus 19-15 in 1975. Biggest upset I ever witnessed. I doubt anyone remembers it but Neumann had been so horrible for so many years. Neumann has had maybe 3 or 4 bad seasons since then? Unreal how horrible they were before that amazing seasons in 1975. At that time Scotus was a class B school and Neumann was a Class C-1 school. I think Scotus was rated #1 in B or at least in the top five at that time. I don' know if anyone on here will remember that but I appreciate the thread and thought I'd throw some history on here.

Somewhere around 1970, St. Cecilia hosted Class A Millard (back when it was just Millard) at Duncan Field and beat them in a low-scoring game. St. Cecilia went out to Millard the next season and lost, but it's still crazy that a Class C school not only played but beat a Class A team.
