149: Askew is out on a stall call

[81Heel/M1]

Askew loses 1-2 in the 6/7 seed match, based on a stalling point. We get no points from this weight, and need a better answer than a true freshman next year. Levy still to wrestle in this round.

[NYHeel92]

Any of those 4/5 matches were very lose-able so winning 5 of 6 is really good. Root and Platt maybe with the best wins out of tha group. Root gave it all he had and came out on top. Really earned it. Platt reversed the result in the dual.

[TAHeel]

Semifinalists at 2PM, all of these are also win and in for NCAAs:

#4 Terukina vs. #1 VT Ventresca (Ventresca won 7-2 in Dual)
#2 Simcox vs. #3 NCSU Jack (Simcox won 2-1 in Dual)
#4 Root vs. #1 STAN Cardenas (Cardenas won 5-1 in Dual)
#4 Hepner vs. #1 NCSU Denny (Denny won 10-2 in Dual)
#6 Carrigan vs. #2 NCSU Singleton (Singleton won 8-3 in Dual)
#4 Dailey vs. #1 PITT Kranitz (Dailey won 7-3 in Dual)
#5 Platt vs. #1 STAN Posada (Posada won 4-0 in Dual)

[TAHeel]

Levy was up 12-4 to start the 3rd and ends up on his back and gets pinned. He is done.

[81Heel/M1]

There is a reason you don’t want to have to wrestle true freshmen. Both scored 0 points for the team. Looking forward to what they eventually do, but should not have needed them this year.

[heelwrestler07]

With a big lead late the only thing you have to do is stay off your back

[TAHeel]

[TAHeel]

Ventresca seemed early on both TB starts, we only challenged the 2nd one

[TAHeel]

Terukina loses in TBs

[81Heel/M1]

Tough losing a match 2-2 on riding time criteria. Ventresca is tough, and Terukina looked good against him. Needs to win his consolation semi, to probably get last year’s national champion from state.

[TAHeel]

Evan Henderson just won the match from the corner with a challenge, Simcox wins 6-5!

[81Heel/M1]

Great match by Simcox, after giving up the early takedown. As TAHeel pointed out, Evan thru the brick for the head gear grab with 8 seconds left in the match.

[TAHeel]

Root outclassed at 157

[81Heel/M1]

This is the point where it’s helpful to remember that the 5 wrestlers that won the 4/5 quarter finals are rewarded with a match against the 1 seed. Halfway thru the semis we ware still in 3rd place, but about 20 points behind Stanford and Tech. We are 7 points ahead of state.

[TAHeel]

Hepner with a huge sequence at the end of the 3rd going from almost on his back to a 7 point move! Great work!

[heelwrestler07]

Hepner with a huge sequence at the end of the 3rd going from almost on his back to a 7 point move! Great work!

Was a great finish, and I always love knocking off NC State guys

[81Heel/M1]

Big win for Hepner after his wrestling the last few weeks. We have dealt a couple of blows to state, and dook in this tournament.

[TAHeel]

Carrigan drops his match to Singleton

[TAHeel]

Dailey is the 3rd to the finals!

[81Heel/M1]

Loved Carrigan‘s effort against the returning acc champ, and Dailey looked good knocking off the 1 seed

Consolation Semis:

Win and Qualify (Not Eliminated with Loss)
#4 Terukina vs. #6 UVA Roller (Did not wrestle in dual)

Win and Qualify (Eliminated with Loss)
#4 Root vs. #7 DUKE Boulanger (Root won 16-6 in dual)

Win to stay alive
#5 Oakley vs. #3 NCSU Redding (Redding won 8-2 in dual)
#6 Carrigan vs. #5 UVA Hamilton (Hamilton won 4-2 in dual)
#5 Platt vs. #6 UVA Burrell Jr. (Platt won by TF in dual)

[TAHeel]

Platt did drop 7-5 to Posada

[81Heel/M1]

Tech pulling away some this round for the lead, with Stanford still comfortably in second. We are still 3rd by around 6 points after Trumble wins his match for state.

Actual team scores Tech 81.5, Stanford 59.5, NC 36, state 32, Pitt 21.5, UVa 9.5, and dook 2. One off dook’s wrestlers that should have scored points got upset by Carrigan and the lost to the 7 seed (1 loss leading to 2). We should be safe for at least a 3-4 place finish.

[TAHeel]

Terukina with a SV win to get our 4th NCAA bid locked up

[heelwrestler07]

Oakley just hasn't looked the same this year, not sure what happened but hate seeing him end his career this way

[TAHeel]

Oakley's season is done. A poor final year.

[TAHeel]

Root with a pin locks up our 5th qualifier

[81Heel/M1]

Pin is huge, as I believe state was ahead of us going into that match.

[TAHeel]

Carrigan advances to the consolation finals

[81Heel/M1]

Huge win for Carrigan

[TAHeel]

Platt gets the win to make consolation finals as well

[TAHeel]

Consolation Finals (Carrigan/Platt for NCAAs):
#4 Terukina vs. #3 NCSU Robinson (Robinson won 4-2 in Dual)
#4 Root vs. #5 UVA Washleski (Root won 15-14 in Dual)
#6 Carrigan vs. #1 PITT Augustine (Augustine won 3-1)
#5 Platt vs. #2 PITT Stout (Stout won 4-1)

CFs have already started

[TAHeel]

[TAHeel]

Terukina gets an early takedown but loses 5-4

[81Heel/M1]

Terukina lost to 2 top6 wrestlers, including last year’s champion, by a combined total of 1 point. He is wrestling well and could make some noise at ncaat.

[TAHeel]

Root drops to Washleski

[TAHeel]

Hell Yeah! Carrigan gets the win and locks up our 6th nationals bid!

[81Heel/M1]

That was huge in so many ways. Great job Carrigan.
