Dennis Smith was a lone bright spot last season on a pathetic team. He looks more for his shot, but on that NC State team, who could blame him.
Duval is, so far, a very good point guard on a hopefully loaded team. We don't need him being too aggressive, only picking spots to score. We need him distributing the ball to Grayson and the bigs. Duval would have helped last years Duke team a lot, and I think he can help get this one deep into March.
I don't think Smith would have helped Duke as much last season. He's too scoring oriented, and the last thing that Duke team needed was someone else looking for their shot.
Not sure who's better between the two, but I think Duval is better for this Duke team than Smith would have been.
