So I was watching the Duke & UNC game the other night and during a time out I noticed on the scrolling banner that goes around the arena they were showing the number of wins, titles, etc. What caught my eye was that they said they had 7 championships. Are they counting Helms titles like Kansas or do they count defeating the NCAA Infraction Committee as a title too?

Yes. And Kentucky has 12. The BBN should stop trying to hold the frauds like UNC-CHEATS and the KU JAILHAWKS to an honest standard, and just throw in Kentucky's four Helms Titles. Hang them high and act like they matter.

UNCheats and Kansas have always counted Helms titles. I think its stupid and bad marketing for UK to continue to ignore and stick our nose up at our own Helms titles. We should count them and embrace them. Look at Alabama, Notre Dame, Michigan etc etc. We are the only major NCAA program that ignores their non-NCAA titles.
Where they get their diplomas.

Technically, Kentucky has SEVEN Helms titles. Helms continued to award them up until around 1980, and some overlap with NCAA titles won by Kentucky. But so what? It's all mythical anyway so hang all seven Helms titles, including those that double-up with REAL, NON-MYTHICAL, WON ON THE COURT titles. All are equally legitimate -- which is to say, totally bogus.

Technically Kentucky has 18 Titles if you count Premo - Porretta Power Poll Titles (3) and (7) Helms Titles.

In other sports maybe but not true in college basketball. UNC & Kansas are really the only programs that push Helms and actively mislead the media over the # of national championships they hold.
Hanging bread company banners is too, you missed the point.
To add to the argument, all football programs count their Helms titles too. I believe when Bama touts their 14 total titles, two of them are Helms. Same for many other football programs. It’s stupid to make a big deal about including them. If that was the standard in the 20’s-30’s then who friggin cares.
I think it is just because, from what I know about the issue, UNC and Kansas are the only ones who claim them which makes them both look desperate to try to catch UK and UCLA.
Ive taken this position for years. Eff it, play their game. I also hate how the football titles have been historically awarded, but while not quite apples to apples, this is the basketball equivalent. Why not just claim titles the same way and really shut UNC and KU up
This is what I have always said as well.
We know the truth, but average outsiders do not. The only way to truly fight it is to also count any "titles" that all the other bluebloods count, in order to show the true separation.
To most casual fans it looks like 8>7....If we control the narrative and just even the playing field it makes the casual fan realize it is 12>7 and comprehend the gap between programs. We waste to much energy trying to get everyone else to play by our Elite rules and only count NCAA banners. Most schools who have fewer will want to show every accomplishment they have ever had. So instead of trying to control something we never can, control what we actually have the ability to control and showcase ALL of our banners.

UK officially "claims" 2 Helms titles, 1933 and 1954, but we don't publicly recognize them for some dumb reason.

Exactly right. Hang them in Rupp Arena and claim them. They were won fair and square. Before the NCAA Tournament that was the recognized National Champion
If Kansas and North Carolina* still count them we might as well, seems like the average fan doesn't know.
So, what I get from all of this is NC has 7 titties and proudly displays them. UK has either 10 or 12 titties but only displays 8. It seems the majority want us to display all of our titties.
