I fully expect them to still make the NCAA tournament, even though anything short of winning the ACC tournament should mean they don't. Will enrage me if they do without winning the ACC tournament.

They SHOULD BECOME the very first preseason team to not make the tournament since the field expanded to 64 teams.

I really want to see it happen. Anything putting that university in a bad light, anything that can make the world point to them and laugh, anything that can make them look pathetic, I am all for.

They deserve it in spades.

Thus is one time I hope Goodman is right.

From the comments:

UNC has the most losses by any Preseason #1 in the history of college basketball.

UNC has the only four game losing streak by any Preseason #1 in the history of college basketball.

UNC is one loss away from becoming the first Preseason #1 ever to miss the NCAA Tournament.

Their first ACCT game is against the winner of UL-BC. Would be hilarious to see horrible UL knock them out.

UNC wasn’t really all that good last year either and their team this year is pretty close to the same team. I didn’t watch their tournament games last year so I don’t know what they looked like during those games, but I did watch a couple regular season games and remember thinking that Davis was either going to get fired quickly or run the program into the ground (or both). Sometimes I think legacy coaches are hired so they they can clean up all of the trash from their predecessors before anything has a chance to go public; with what is public about UNC, what we don’t know is probably beyond damning. Whatever the reason, UNC mostly just had a few lucky/good games in a row last year and when the preseason hype started this year, I was scoffing every time.

Jerry Palm said last night if North Carolina gets a win vs Virginia for another quad 1 win that should get them in............................................

Here is what is highly possible since Virginia is currently 30 NET.
Virginia won't play another game until they play North Carolina if UNC makes it that far.
If UNC wins it is most likely going to push Virginia below 30 NET so while it would give them a quad 1 win that day for neutral court win it would also likely take away their quad 1 home win leaving them still with 1 quad 1 win.

That said does 2 wins vs Virginia (1 H 1 N) and 1 win vs NC State at home get you in ?

If you go back and watch the final minute of the national championship game you will see a team that was horribly coached. They were completely confused and in disarray. Their next to last possession of the game in which they had plenty of time was absolutely horrific. I may go watch it now so I can laugh at them again.

No way should they be in this position with what they returned .

I say that as someone who said they were really a Cinderella team that went on a run last year . But the UNC name got them number 1

Was the name or the lack of knowledge by the voters or maybe even both? MANY on this board said that it was stupid for them to be voted number 1. It just shows how uninformed the voters are, at least early in the season.

Probably a combination of both . I think the UNC name definitely helped along with returning 4 starters . Also doesn’t help that College basketball just isn’t all that strong these days .

And yet they will make it into the Dance

Their ONLY hope is to beat Virginia for a second time. At least that would give them 2 more wins. But, having said that, I think they are on the outside. They finished 7th in the conference. They will have 13 losses and finished 1 game below NCSt and 3 games below Pitt, Clemson and Duke. They finished a whopping 4 games below Virginia and Miami.

Is the ACC going to take 7 teams?

Lot of folks on here don’t like Lunardi but keep an eye on his projections. He almost always gets right who’s in and who’s out.

Haven’t followed bb as much this year. Is there any possibility of a bid stealer in the lesser conferences? Bid stealer will push UNC further down.

They could win the tourney but I don’t see it.

In a very very weak ACC. If they do, we know what's up. And the bias will be proven once and for all.

I went back and watched the last few minutes of the game. Love was hotdogging. He was determined that he was going to win the game by himself. He wasn't passing the ball or doing anything but trying to score. On that next to last possession he took a long 3 and missed. Then, the game turned chaotic as nobody knew what to do.
On the very last possession they gave the ball to Love for a potential game tying 3 but he missed badly. Seriously, what was Hubie thinking? Love had been shooting and missing and they give him the last shot!

ESPN’s second favorite team will probably get in and play in Greensboro.

It was easy to see, they played like this all last year. Just got hot at the right time.

Most banked on them playing the same as the end of the year and Love carrying them all year like he did during that run + Bacot. It’s now easy to see that Manak made that team what it was. He changed the year last year and now they are exactly the same without him.

I thought they found a nice replacement for him in Pete Nance, but he’s no Manak..

Bubba Cunningham, UNC AD, is one of the 10 people making up the 10 member selection committee. Yes, UNC will be in the 68 teams selected.

Your post just destroyed any hope that I have of a fair committee.

That is unbelievably bad to have that idiot on the committee. The ONLY good thing is that he isn't allowed to be in the room when UNC is discussed but as crooked as he is, I can bet he will try to cut some secret deals.

I saw this today when I was wondering what Bilas thought of UNC being in the tournament after he was so adamant last year when many thought they were not:

Ahead of Saturday’s game, “College GameDay” was in Chapel Hill and one of the segments was the analysts making their prediction for bubble teams, including UNC. The trio of Seth Greenberg, Jay Bilas and LaPhonso Ellis revealed whether UNC would be in or out come Selection Sunday.

The trio all agreed:

Seth Greenberg: IN

LaPhonso Ellis: IN

Jay Bilas: IN
