People need to lose jobs. Players, coaches, whoever. Completely unacceptable to come out totally flat against a FCS opponent on both sides of the ball after losing your home opener.
Do u see this causing commits to decommit?

All of the offensive coaching staff needs to be let go. All of them.

Right. Who's going to lose their job two games into the season. Are we going to fire a coach? Are we going to bench Thorson and play Alviti? Can we come up with a new offensive line? Possibly our two best players - Jackson and Harris - are either sitting on the bench or in the locker room as the game ends.

I am usually 100% behind Fitz and the program, but I see nothing but misery ahead this year.

Except Fitz had to have some inkling that we were this bad. The results surprise all of us, but he's been watching them through spring and fall. He HAS to have known his team wasn't up to par this year.

Amongst players, my first two guys on the block would be Olson and Mahoney; they both struggled MIGHTILY with undersized and moderately quick FCS DL today. On the coaching side, Cushing Springer and McCall; probably doesn't need too much explanation.

Well, last week after the loss he said that he expects to win National Championships...so, probably not.

The first step I'd make is to name Bob Heffner the OL coach and make Cushing the super back coach. That is a realistic change that can be made right away.

I don't think that would really change much. Hefner is already a pseudo-assistant OL coach as it is.

For what it's worth, I don't make this kind of post lightly. I have the utmost personal respect for the coaches and players at NU. But, unfortunately, changes need to happen if the job just isn't getting done. I've officially crossed over into that opinion.

Thanks for your honest opinion. Hearing you say this, means something needs to be done real soon. I'm OK with Fitz as head coach but he really needs to make some changes very soon. Screw the loyalty stuff.

Yep Gerry DiNardo gushed about the Cats during BTN day at NU. No one saw this coming.

Yea, that's the puzzler for me. I can't recall Dinardo and the other analyst at BTN being so off about NU in prior preseason analyses.

They don't care. Everybody got fat and complacent.

Whole cliques of guys on this team don't even talk to each other outside of team mandated activities.

Agree with GCG. Hef already does his own job and Cush's. Cush is a good recruiter, you know, like the most popular 'cool' HS teacher we all knew? Pat kept promoting him because he can recruit and we don't ask Mick and Hank to recruit large territories.

Pretty difficult to make that change in season, but a change or two could be pulled off (especially if position coaches).

Yeah Cole could take over for Springer

Hate to say this to you but I still sort of like McCall. Assuming JJTBC is out for Duke, i would start Alviti and run read option all day with Moten or Anderson.

Some people say McCall shows no imagination and doesn't bother with the chess game of showing one look and going back to the same look and running it with a different wrinkle later in the game. But from a game plan standpoint I remember Kafka in the Metrodome filling in for Bacher. I remember shifting to an option attack with Kain and Venric when everybody knew us as a short passing team running fastball.

Anyway you know I think Cush has to go. Friend of Pat aside, it is possible to find good recruiters and Mick will retire eventually and you need to find an heir apparent since there is no budget to hire Art Briles' son

It's not that uncommon for cliques to develop. It's a little unrealistic to think 100+ guys would all get along and pal around at all times. But I also don't think it's a real part of the issue.

As per a previous post, look at the Wisc. OL coaching change made early in the season a number of years back. This makes a draconian point and demonstrates accountability instead of just talking about it.

Interesting question whether he actually did, or whether he's bought his own look-aid...

Seriously some changes need to be made to the coaching staff, but Fitz is too loyal. Hey we won 10 games last year.

A historically good NU D and some flukey wins covered up a lot of the problem areas which have issues for a while.

Hance whiffed numerous times as well.

Would actually look to some young coach on the Wisky staff who has a good understanding of how Wisky developed their O-linemen.

I think he is just as flummoxed as the rest of us. He's been watching his play against his and that isn't much of a test. Every team has their own character and so far this team looks soft under pressure. Still 10 weeks to go, maybe they find themselves against Duke.

One thing I can guarantee they won't go 0-12. I bet my screen name on it!;)

We could have hired the coach who developed several of the best Wisconsin OL. His name is Bob Boostad and he was looking for a job this summer after being part of an NFL staff that was let it go. I think he took a job with a MAC school.

Bob Bostad? Currently TE/FB coach at NIU after turns as OL coach with the Titans and Buccaneers.
