thanks for compiling

I know its monday morning qb but Agee 14 points in 13 minutes or so, he probably would have been more effective than having Cliff in late. I certainly would have never thought that.

I know Ron is the big star but if he is hurting and its effecting his play its up to Pike to yank him a bit and rest him. You have Hyatt or Jones that could have come in or even Agee. Ron played 32 minutes but had no impact in the 2nd except for a couple of assists.

Not getting the ball to Cliff was our undoing and the last two times we did, he missed and he missed a ft

We did a good job of playing smart and punishing their zone in the first half and into the start of the second... whether that was getting to Omoruyi for dunks, to Mag or Harper flashing to the gap in the zone near the foul line, or driving baseline and dishing. Then suddenly that stopped.

McConnell had 8 assists in the first 20:18 of the game, and was instrumental offensively in breaking the zone with smart passes..... then he had just 1 more the rest of the game, at the 7:14 mark. Not sure what happened there. We started playing much more "pass around the perimeter" instead of slashing and popping into the gaps in the zone, and suddenly we stopped scoring.

We got to 70-57 with 9:34 left in the game (with 22 assists)..... and then were outscored 28-13 down the stretch (with just 3 assists). We got away from the offense that was working for us, and started to settle for what the defense was giving.

Pike said post game he didnt want to get into an 85-83....I think RU by design stopped attacking and ran more clock, Pike thought he could trust the defense to make a stop or two...IMO you have to keep attacking a team who arent great defenders....UMass was shooting 12-23 on 3s at one point but RU STILL led by 14. Thats the pace of the game you cant decide to change it

so Pike trusted his best defenders over his best offensive options yet again and it failed miserably

Not to mention one of those two times was a pass into Cliff with maybe 3 seconds left on the shot clock which meant he basically had to turn and put one up.

They were successful for most of the game when they were moving the ball with intention and working the ball inside. Down the stretch they reverted to just passing it around the perimeter until the shot clock became an issue and then forcing up a bad shot.

Agree with above comments and would add poor game management during the last 2 minutes especially as others have mentioned not calling a timeout after Mulchahy put us ahead. Setting up an inbound defense which would have prevented any decent look with 4 seconds to go. That should have been standard practice in that circumstance. Doesn’t appear we have a book of strategies for various circumstances throughout any game. If this is the situation, then we do this. ( That’s on the coaches). It appears that UMass had a strategy to foul McConnell and it worked for them.
Also % of free throws made we won except they went to line more often because we stopped attacking. Killer in this game was Palmquist giving two 3 point fouls. He should have been pulled after the first one.
This loss more than any other is clearly on the coaching staff.

He doesn't learn. He did the same thing vs Houston instead of keeping the pressure on He reverts to his defensive ways and things ok let's focus on holding them
