Why(besides Maryland's ranking) does Trimble get so much more love nationally? I hear best this top that all the time for him, numbers don't say so

Trimble is so over rated, imo. Talking heads act like he's just head and shoulders above everyone else and that's not the case.

He's 6 inches taller, he's shooting the ball better, and he has a higher assist rate than Ulis.

Trimble is good but Ulis is great. Murray is also much better then Trimble but then again Murray is better then any guards not named Hield and Ulis who are the 2 best.

Ulis has a higher averages in scoring, assists, rebounding, steals, and commits fewer turnovers. They're comparable from the line, but Trimble has been better from the field this season. Part of that was the fact, Tyler was ice cold in the first month of the season. Since Christmas, Ulis is 48% from the field, 36% from 3, and 87% from the line. Based off his numbers last year, I think that first month was an aberration.

Bottom line is both are great. With that said, the way Ulis is playing the last month I (just me) wouldn't trade him for any PG in the country. Check these stats out over the last month.

I think Trimble is a fantastic pg, his problem is his coach. He doesn't push and teach like Cal does snd his system is sub par. Trimble shots way too many threes IMO. they have Diamond Stone in the middle as well as some other studs but he just fires away from the outside. Way too many close games from Maryland for a veteran team to get me to believe they are a real threat.

Tremble is a really good, but not great player.

Big 10 bias and overrating play a factor too.

How have we made it this far into the thread without side by side stats. Stats don't always tell the story but they help explain it

Ulis: 15.3 pts, 6 as/1.9 to, 3.5 reb 1.4 st

Trimble: 14.5 pts, 5.6as/2.6to, 2.7 reb, 1.3 st
Ulis out rebounds this guy? That's crazy. Tyler beats him in every category but shooting %'s. Ulis plays under a crap-ton MORE pressure than Trimble. Trimble has more help in the post too. Diamond Stone had a 40 point game this year.

The main reason Trimble is preferred is because he can START in the NBA someday with his size and Ulis will most likely be a backup unless he becomes a great shooter and dunks like a monster.

That said though Tyler Ulis's stats are badass. I'd take those stats every year from my point. Dang he can score better than I thought he ever could. He can get his own shot at 5' 9'' which helps get you into the league.

If we were talking about their NBA potential I would say Trimble is the easy choice.
But we're not talking about the NBA, we are talking about college and Ulis is easily the best choice for the college game.
Ulis averaging more rebounds is almost funny. That's all about heart and effort.

Both are really good players. I think they are about equal and both a notch below Dunn.

Hard to argue against either one of these guys...I am more than happy with Ulis and would take him any day!

1. Kris Dunn
2. Tyler Ulis
3. Melo Trimble

Trimble is awesome, but I feel like he's more of a combo guard. All 3 of these guys are very good.

I think Dunn is a great pg but he is trying to play a pro style game. His go to move is a step back shot no matter where he is on the court. However he doesn't have the players around him that can finish like UK and Maryland do.
I'd take any one if them any day of the week. They're all superb point guards.

That's sick!

Ulis came back too soon from his injury because we had to have him even if it was with one arm. This hurt his field percentage a lot.

Dunn is definitely the best, then Trimble and Ulis. Yogi Ferrell isn't too far behind.
