Anybody else kinda worried about Tyler's 3pt shot? He was off tonight and he was off the last few games also. Of course he played great in every other department but he was such a good outside shooter last year that its worrisome to see him miss like he has recently.

And knowing his work ethic, he will be in the gym working on it in the morning. Yeah, he's defijitely a little off the past 3-4 games, but I'm not worried yet. I have full confidence in him, and so I believe he will work to improve his shot soon. Plus, everyone goes through a slump. Booker couldn't buy one at the start of last season.

Not just Tyler. Would like to see our guard-oriented lineup be a little more explosive from the 3.

Our 3 point shooting has got me like we will not be getting to the final four. They have got to imrpove it. We are shooting it at 27% which is atrocious for a 3 guard starting line up. I think we need to be at 35-36% to have a good chance of winning the whole thing. Our free throw shooting is really just about who goes to the line

Tyler is playing considerably more minutes this year. Once he adjusts, I think his shot starts falling consistently.

We don't shoot that many threes.

Give us a game where we get hot and everything will balance out.

The guards are learning to play together in Cal's dribble drive offense. The 3pt shooting will be fine later once they are comfortably settled into the offense. Especially Murray. He will be stroking it and there is no need to worry about him putting it up.

we wont be a good 3 point shooting team. ball movement isnt good enough. we arent getting easy 3 point looks. murray is the only one getting them

Ulis passes up a lot of open three point looks. Please rewatch the game and count the open three Ulis has but he feeds the ball to the post like his coach is asking him to do.

Cal is yelling at them to drive. The defenders hear the same and know it's the emphasis. Not only will the getting used to driving to the rim make them better at it, but will pay dividends down the road once Cal is satisfied and the green light to shoot begins to shine.

He wants them to learn to play offense without launching 3's. When he then takes off the brakes, watch out... The offense will begin to flow better and be more exciting to watch.

He's just more likeable a player to certain people. I loved the Harrisons, and love Ulis. I love most UK players if they win games. I don't care about facial expressions or personalities or what state they are from, etc. He has been pretty terrible from 3 so far.

It is actually 21% after tonight, if he raises it 3% every game then just 10 more and he will be over 50%!

He is shooting around 90% from the line, now that is what a good PG does do.

Ding ding ding. Ulis has set career highs in points scored two games in a row and he put 21 in tonight.

As a team we shot 53% with five players scoring in double figures. Alex had a double double.

It's just the fourth game under the lights for this team. Geez

Ulis shot over 40% from 3 as a frosh, so he's proven himself as a good 3 pt shooter.

Aaron had to drain every 3 in the tourney to raise his frosh season % to 35%.

Big difference.

I do remember a thread about Ulis shooting 50% or 55%. Both are unreasonable numbers. As long as he shoots above 35% and isn't jacking up a bunch of guards threes, UK fans should be very happy. He should hover around the 42-43% area.

Yeah but he did not shoot a lot of them last year. And he's right about people killing the Harrison's and never applying those same standards to Ulis.

Not worried about Ulis though, he will get in the groove after he adjusts to playing full games

cool....cant wait until he is shooting 40% from three again. and if not...i'm sure there will be plenty of excuses made by fans to cover for him.

IDK if youre trying to argue aaron over ulis? Or that ulis is bad? Either way you should just stop

Ulis is ridiculous. He's so small, quick and good with the ball he can get in the lane and create problems at will even when the defenders give him a cushion.

Briscoe is the same. Murray also to a lesser degree.

This backcourt is a dream. Gonna be a lot of lost sleep this year by opposing coaches trying to figure out how to stop those three.

Aaron took a gazzilion threes. Ulis doesn't take that many. The kid shot 43% from deep last season, so how about we let the season play out before we judge his shot, eh?

Tyler was shooting very well before he went to the bench. After he came back he was a little off but that can happen. Right now the only problems I see is our bigs still haven't hot their stride yet and Briscoe needs to hit his free throws. Oh yeah, Cal still can't coach.

The team is shooting a low percentage in part because I doubt shooting the 3 has been emphasized at all in practice. It's clear from Cal's comments and how the team plays that they've worked primarily on driving the ball thus far.

Tyler Ulis shot 1-3 from 3pt range tonight. thats 33% ...... which is just as good as 50% 2pt fg....... He had a bad 0-4 game against Duke but other than that he's been alright.

He is playing the most minutes of any player on the team....long distance shooting requires you to use your legs and have lift. I think he has tired legs and it's affecting his shot. Luckily being tired doesn't mess with his tremendous court vision that is the best in the country.

Ulis is so under control. He not only had 21 big uns but he led UK in assists with 5 and steals with 2 while only turning it over twice.

Thats 11 assists with only 2 tos the last two gms.

Hes the best player in the country and will be 1st team AP AA.

There, I said it.

The rule changes play right into the hands of Cal's dribble drive so Cal is all in on this team driving the ball and putting it on the rim.

Why the apparent disdain for our best player?

I get that we aren't shooting the ball well, but he's playing a lot of minutes, running our O, and getting after it defensively. Not to mention he's had his best offensive outputs of his career the past two nights.

My conclusions are different. With some situational exceptions, scoring is not what this team needs from Ulis. Duke was an exception because Grayson Allen was too slow to handle Tyler, while our bigs were being dominated inside by Jefferson and Plumlee. I have never believed Ulis' primary value to this team will be scoring. As a freshman last year, Ulis was 4th on the team in minutes played, 2nd in assists, 4th in steals, but only 8th in scoring. He hit 40% of his FGAs last year. This year Ulis is hitting 41% from the floor, same as last year. Ulis' role is to distribute the basketball and play solid defense. The kid has a great motor, and he steps up in big situations. He will hit some 3s. But at this point, Ulis is 2nd on the team behind Murray in FGAs. That cannot continue. Murray, Labissiere, Briscoe must be our primary scorers. Ulis will be the distributor. Last night, Murray only took 4 shots from the floor. That cannot continue. As good as Ulis is, his size will make his performances matchup dependent. Ulis has been too quick and too clever for the teams we have played so far. That won't always be the case. We will need our bigs and our more physical players to play better. Until then, Ulis is carrying more of the offensive load than he will later.

but we have had very good players in the past that did other things well too but didnt shoot the three well that got ripped to shreds by many many fans.
