Ha! Does Cronin miss his family in Cincy or what? Why on God’s green earth would you leave Southern California for Louisville, KY. That’s laughable. And program wise that’s not even a lateral move, that’s a definite downgrade. If I were Cronin and I got that phone call I’d have a hard time not laughing out loud and hanging up unless there were LOTS of zeros on the paycheck involved.

Yeah I get that. But maybe life in Southern California for a Midwest guy isn’t what he wants. I mean it’s not like Louisville is a terrible job and with all the other things going on in la maybe he wants a slower pace life In a place that gives a poo about college ball.

Yeah that’s fair. I thought about it more after I hit “post reply” and my initial shock wore off. I have always heard about the sunny and 70s weather but I could totally see why California is not for everyone. But that’s a Paddock discussion so I won’t bring it up here. And you are correct about UL fans caring more about college basketball. Seems as though people in LA care more about a bad Lakers team than a UCLA team that came within a buzzer beater from a title game last year.

Not sure why any coach would want to walk into the living abortion UL basketball is if you already have a good gig like UCLA. I know money talks, but the NCAA stuff hanging over the program looms large. And the NCAA is dragging their feet to maximize damage since UL isn’t one of their sacred cows.

My guess is he’s looking for a pay increase from UCLA. They don’t pay much. Their attempt to steal Calipari away included asking him to take a pay cut.

California income taxes and cost of living, traffic and competing with Lakers, Clippers and USC could be a factors.

Yeah that’s why I mentioned money talks. But these guys are also ultra competitive and don’t want to be irrelevant for years if the NCAA drops the hammer.

Not even close. The heat on Tubby was from parts of the fanbase. He had full support from Mitch. Denny was done the day Pitino was fired by the Celtics.
I don't believe for a second that Tubby had the full support of Mitch. That was window dressing.

Regardless, what I mean is that Tubby didn't leave Kentucky for Minnesota because it was a better job, obviously. He was forced out, regardless of who did the "forcing." That's the equivalent of being fired in my book.

Ehhh, two schools of thought with this idea. $1,000,000 in LA is not the same as a $1,000,000 in Louisville. Cost of living, housing market, traffic, etc. between the two cities is vastly different. Also, the fan support for UCLA is 1/1000 of what it is for UK/UL. He also has a chance to be closer to home.

With that being said, Cronin can basically go to dinner or out for coffee anywhere he wants in LA and no one knows who he is. He comes to Louisville and every line beard that sees him at Thorton's will be begging for an autograph. I don't know how any coach considers the job right now considering you have no clue who you're working for and you have no idea what the NCAA is going to do with regards to sanctions.

Always thought Denny got hosed a bit by Tommy Turtleneck. Denny built the program not Porntino as many younger fans think. Plus Denny won 2 NCAAT titles. Certainly handled himself classier than RP. He turned down offers on more than one occasion to go back to UCLA where he was an assistant. The program however was definitely trending the wrong way. I think Denny deserved better from the UL AD.

He wasn’t fired but he was pretty much forced out.
That’s so funny. I mean hysterically funny. Kentucky was totally unprepared for him to leave. The Gillispe debacle resulted. We were so desperate for a coach we didn’t even sign a proper contract.

This crap about him being fired or forced out is a fantasy that little unimportant haters try to promote to make themselves feel important. They are laughable and pathetic.

Those posting comments without details don’t know the difference between their butt and a ******. If you‘re going to post in a thread that You know something then post the details; otherwise no one can take what you post seriously. Most posters read this sight to get inside info, which means most of the people posting here don’t know anything. Sometimes, I wonder if anyone posting here has any inside info.

Definitely not the same level of job but the difference in cost of living and the fact is I’d work for North Dakota State before I would live in California especially in the LA area.

I believe if Denny surrounded himself with really good assistants, UL never would have started to stink his last few years.

Denny Crum chose Louisville over UCLA in 1975 and he was a SoCal native and former UCLA player and assistant.

You know how much it costs to live in Southern CA? The rampant homelessness? The rampant crime left unchecked? The extremely high taxes? UofL could match his current salary and he comes out way ahead. He can visit SoCal whenever he wants.
