That was the most bipolar game I’ve ever watched. We looked awful in that first half. AWFUL.

Best play just about all year in the second.

When the opposing team is shooting the lights out, anybody looks bad. Vandy cooled off and got blown out. End of story.

Yep energy was there from the start of the second half. Noticeably different feel on both ends. Something woke their asses up.

And that’s when I get critical. I understand we aren’t going to win every game. But I hate that lack of energy and effort. If you’re going to lose, and least do it in your feet.

Loved the fight and energy for the second half. And Cal earned it tonight. Great half adjustments and riding the refs in the second half after looking so dejected in the first. From sucking to winning. I’ll take that every night. (Just not the first half every night please!)

We were getting out rebounded in the first half. And the lack of energy pissed me off. I understand getting out shot. Happened to us during the WVU tourney loss. I was mad but not at our lack of effort that night.

Just play hard and be energized.

Oh absolutely. But man. We looked worn out, lost, like somebody shot our dog until right before the half. I hate watching us like that. It’s just frustrating.

And then at half time. I don’t know who said what. But it worked. We came out mad as hell. I LIKE THAT.
I'd rather be good in the 2nd half. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

I know some fans complain but I love this style of play. Emphasize driving the ball and you will make a higher percentage of your shots and just as importantly you will draw fouls. At least if the refs call them.

Jacking threes like Vandy and Auburn only is a winning strategy if you hit at a good clip. Even still not guaranteed. With our style you aren’t reliant on the outside shot to any extent. UK can win games when just dead cold from outside.

It looks much better when you don't let the other team get set on defense, keep from charging, and you don't blow the layups. I still would rather see an offense that doesn't just rely on athleticism to beat your man one on one most of the game. Makes us look mediocre when the other team plays lock down defense or zones us and we are not hitting 3's.

I could make an argument that we don’t make those mistakes you are referring to at any more of a clip than anyone else. What I like about our style is that it isn’t completely reliant on any one facet. We still shoot a good amount of threes most times but we aren’t reliant on them as an Auburn or Vandy would be. However we can also shoot them at a higher rate some games if we are hitting, or if not hitting form outside, we can also focus on driving the ball or playing thru the post.

I think it’s a more versatile style of play when needed. Doesn’t always translate of course bc a plan is not a plan until the whole thing blows up. More often than not tho I’m happy.

Agreed but effort determines this teams fate. This isn't the team you can just "count on" for a comeback in March. They have to be focused and ready to go from the jump. If they aren't well...

Well I hope after 1st halves like tonight, Cal will use this as a learning lesson that you can’t sleep on anyone come when it REALLY matters. Knowing Cal, I bet he will be sure to remind them and include a couple other of their clunker games for emphasis.

My concern is... this already happened multiple times this year. Hoping it clicks eventually. Cross your fingers,

Well that’s why we play the entire season. Learning lessons are for these kinda games. Although some would have lost their lunch, I wouldn’t have been crushed had UK lost tonight.

If anyone has ever paid attention to Cal, he is playing the long game. Same crap with the people who get so focused on playing zone. Cal would rather drop a game or two playing shite M2M and be elite at the defense by tourney time than throwing some
Junk zone defense out there to win at Vandy.

Not saying he shouldn’t be less hard headed about it—I think he should—just saying he is playing the long game I don’t think that’s something anyone can argue.

Beauty of the tourney is—we will find out if his strategy works this year.

I agree with most of your post but losing tonight would of been a killer. You go from hopefully a 2 seed to at most a 7 or 8 seed. My opinion at least this season has been hard to judge based on the equality of teams

Def would hurt not sure we drop from 4 to 8 tho. Even still, the seed in this years tourney is almost meaningless. Gonna be a wild ride. I’m hoping for the best. However it goes it will be exciting.

TBC—there are also tons of 70+ Cal lovers. But the haters are all octogenarians.

Never seen a defense that makes it so easy to get to the basket. Zone would at least stop that. You’d still be giving up the same open shots your man to man gives up, but penetration would stop.
Its just hard in todays game to chase man to man and defend the three point line. It just takes one good screen or one guy beat off the dribble for the dominos to start falling towards and open shot because from the first lapse everbody else has to leave their man to rotate and help. I hate a 2-3 zone but love a 3-2 matchup where you can in affect plan man on the perimeter without chasing through crap and fouling.

That one is on Cal. He's never emphasized guarding the three. His teams try to funnel the ball to a wall under the basket. Stackhouse is taking advantage of Cal's defense.
Right on point as usual You can borrow my tin foil cap dunce. On second thought, keep it. Wait till the game is over to cry Cal is STUPID!!!
