I'm blown away. Look out college basketball, this kid is going to wreck everybody's predictions.
What guard in the country is better than this kid? I know it's one game, but clearly you can see how good he is. The #1 team in the country couldn’t contain him. He's too quick. Wow.
I'm impressed.
James Wiseman scores 29 on popcorn state but the big dog Maxey drops 27 on the number one team in the nation.

The game, it sounded like you were resigned to a loss. "We couldn't put them away."
we couldn’t put them away like an experienced team i meant. but we also really couldn’t put them away. that shot by maxey clearly won the game. we led the whole game and are better. and will be scary by year’s end. just saying how it felt and looked when it was 62-60.

So my assessment

Maxey obviously is a star was the best player on the floor all night. Quickley and sestina played really well and Richards had ups and downs

Need a lot more from Whitney and brooks need much smarter play from Hagans and for him to make layups. Juzang didn't play enough for me to notice anything good or bad

EJ....I'm afraid his time here is running out

Heck of a team effort. Defense did a great job swarming and rotating 95% of the time to be game 1.

Can’t say enough about how big Maxey stepped up late. We found our go to guy when we need a basket. Very mixish of Brandon Knight and Jamal Murray.
Michigan State went 5-26 from 3 and missed 10+ wide open shots. That’s not good defense at all. They shoot even average and they win easily.

His floaters are soo smooth. I love when guards take that shot but take it under control. Kid has those floaters down pat.

So MSU felt the outside shot would win this game or did UK say: ya ain't taking it inside?
Salute to the Cats in this Win.

maybe so man I didn’t read the whole game thread. But the last five pages I read of your posts were literally all negative. Is what it is I just laugh when fans spout the Cal can’t coach nonsense.

from what I can tell from your posts you feel you should be walking the sidelines. Cal can’t coach he can’t sub right yada yada yada. He just beat the #1 team in the country. Good enough for me.
We were slowly losing the lead. Couldn’t help it at the time. Cal is good in all areas except coaching in game. He’s been that way since Memphis. Not saying I’d do better but I know for sure I wouldn’t draw up an inbounds play for the ball to go to easily the worst ft shooter late in the game.

Most were contested to some degree.

The 5 or so that were wide open were primarily by their bigs. I’ll give up a 5 man shooting a 3 more often than not.

It was game one. The few breakdowns we had will get sorted out and we will improve as we always do. MSU is a veteran team. That was a very good team win.

It's not just the floaters, he has elite quickness that allows him to go by any defender, then throw up that floater. Good luck defending that one on one.

Oh, by the way, you can't trap or double him, you would be leaving Hagans or Quickley open.

Not that it matters, but I thought you had a hell of a night from the comments I remember. Feels like we have something special this year. Can't wait to share the season with everyone.
Lol well thank you. And agree on the team. Potential is there to be very special. We have the best backcourt in the country. If our frontcourt can catch up we will roll teams.

No problem. It was a great night. I don't get the idea of bashing other posters on a night where UK tipped off it's season. We should all be getting along right now. Even with those who talked crazy during that CC nonsense.

I think Nick Richards and Nate Sestina showed enough for me to feel good about this team.
They manned up against the best rebounding team they will see all year.
Heck, they probably beat MSU on the boards, or at least it seems like they did.
I was impressed with Nate tonight. I think his impact will be bigger that Travis' was.

Cats missed their fair share of bunnies too. Defense played a factor. If you can't admit that whatever. An L is an L anyway you cut it. Michigan State has a great team and will only get better as will Kentucky.

I thought we might win. But never figured Maxey would do THAT
Yeah, I thought Hagans and Quickley would show out and I thought Maxey would show flashes, but he dominated.
Kid has to feel really good about where he's at right now.
I think he just made a lot of money with that performance.

I didn’t panic after duke last year. I won’t be overly hyped from this win. Both win or lose way to early to tell. But I did like the win! If Ej can make thAt next leap I’ll feel much better. Whitney brooks will both get better I’m not worried about them. Juzang can’t really defend and unless he’s hitting 3s he won’t see much court come sec time. Sestina is the glue and one of quickly hagans or maxey can go off any particular night
Again this win doesn’t mean to much but I sure as hell did see a lot of promise
