Will Tubby get booed at Rupp? There still seems to be a lot of venom and vitriol towards him even after 15 years, at least if you read this board.

I don’t think Tubby would be booed. I think he would be cheered. He ran our program honestly and with class. He wasn’t hot on the recruiting trail often enough, but he was a great coach in the respect he did more with less talent wise.

I could be wrong, but I just don’t see him doing enough to make people want to boo him.

Tubby won a championship at UK. And was a Bogans sprained ankle away from another one. I honestly think the year Patrick Sparks senior season we should/could have won as well. A few shaky calls in the Michigan State game (Sparks was fouled when he made the 3 to force overtime) and we are in the Final Four.
Did he make questionable decisions? Yes. But so did the other coaches who are in the rafters. Did he miss on recruits? Yes. But so did the other coaches who are in the rafters. Did he have bad teams some years? Yes. But so did the other coaches who are in the rafters.
Tubby did a whole lot for this program. And, he ran it with class. I think it is well past time to put his name in the rafters.

If I were in the stands, it's what I would do without reservation.

I couldn't see that. Tubby won a title and is one of the good guys in college basketball. UK fans should and would give him a warm welcome back to Rupp. But they should make this game happen ASAP. With Tubby turning 70 nest June, I don't think he will be coaching for too much longer. I'd guess another 2 to 5 years is the most he'll decide to keep coaching for, and my high end guess may be pushing it.

National champion
And we wouldve had more if we hired Donovan.
If Tubby doesn't ride the coattails of Pitinos leftovers and win a title.....would he still go into the rafters?
If Mills or Padgett dont hit those crucial 3's against Duke, does his name still go into the rafters?

People always want to bring up Bogans ankle. If you think Bogans was going to stop Wade that night youre dreaming. Wade could score on ANY NBA player.....Bogans had no chance with 3 good ankles.
Sparks team was good, but it wasn't a title contender.

People also seem to forget Tubby started looking for a job in while the season was still going on....skips town without even telling his players and leaves UK in shambles with nobody.

Who gives a chit about how classy he was? We sucked. Still think he's a good coach, how'd he do at all his other jobs post-UK?

Tubby is your "hot high school girlfriend" that dumped you for some loser and never got her MOJO back. Are we all not better off years later?

Now that I think about it, who's more likely get booed? Pitino? Or Gillispie?
I don't see any reason to boo either of them. I wouldn't boo Tubby either.

Pitino saved this program and has been the best coach of Kentucky since Adolph Rupp. His teams bled blue and represented the hell out of Kentucky. They had the funnest teams not only at UK in history, but arguably the history of college basketball. Cal has been a blast, but his cycle of OAD's, an era of kids who aren't in love with the ride or die for UK mantra, and lack of back end success compared to the beginning makes it a good ways short of Pitino's era. And now that Pitino only has UK to reference, hates Louisville, and it all fell apart, I'm okay with him coming back as long as he constantly expresses how big of a f up it was to leave and how much Louisville damaged his career. Let's do it.

Gillispie took a job that he should have never been offered. I wouldn't boo him at all, I'd simply look at him and think to myself "that guy fvckin coached UK" and immediately dream my own version of overachievement. Maybe I too could pull one off and coach D1 one day. Guys like Gillispie give all little guys the ability to dream big.

Any coach that gives the UK fans the middle finger sucks.

Nope. He will not.
I visited Tubby and Donna in High Point in January he told me next year will be his last coaching I am also on the jersey retirement committee Mitch and everyone agreed to retire a Jersey right after Tubby retires no sense in having High Point come in for a beating then honor him
Tubby and I have been close over 30 years no finer Christian man
I have been to every school he coached after UK on his nickel He was a credit to UK and people should leave Tubby alone

BS The 98 team to a man agree they never win that year with SEXtino’s system that argument is crap
Pitino is twice the coach Tubby was/is. Actually, 3-4 times.
Ricky can take a group of rednecks and make them the best team in America, but you're saying Pitino wouldn't have a better effect on a team full of McDonalds All Americans as Tubby did in 98? LOL....your fandom is blocking your intellect.

If Pitino and Tubby had the same exact team where each player was exactly the same.....same height, same weight, same ability, Pitino beats Tubs 10 out of 10 games with a few bad blow outs. UK made Tubby, if not for UK the country would never know who he was. Nice guy me all you want, we weren't fortunate and he'd be the only coach to leave UK worse than what he inherited in.
