Exactly Cal should’ve been gone after 9-16 he’s had a 2nd and 3rd chance that he should’ve never gotten!
It's the cost of the enormous buyout that prevents what you suggest. Tough to come up with that huge amount to fire a coach and then have to turn around and pay out what likely would be a pretty good sum for a good quality coach.

I bet he’ll get hired by a lesser power 5 school (South Carolina, ole miss, DePaul type of team) in the next 1-2 years

Cal should be allowed to select his own replacement.

He would probably choose Tony Barbee.

If you think any coach in the country gets fired after one season with the previous 10 years that Cal had then you really don't know how things work, do you? Only way any successful coach at a blue blood gets fired because of a single season is because of off the court misconduct.

Well he has made a final four so you can check that box off now let’s see if he can make the championship game.

Hmmm

May is 100-59 as head coach at Florida Atlantic. 62%
That’s better than Coach K’s winning percentage after his first 5 seasons as a head coach.

Not saying May will be anywhere near as good as Coach K. Just pointing out that focusing solely on winning percentage without any other context is totally worthless.

I believe FAU had 7 consecutive losing seasons before May was hired.

9-16 should’ve gotten him fired at UK that’s the worst season in school history. Then to top that he had the worst tournament loss in school history the very next season! Those should’ve been 2 fireable offenses but since he’s signed to such a ridiculous contract they couldn’t pay the buyout to get rid of him. Then he turns around loses the all time wins lead last year to go along with losing the all time NCAA tournament wins lead. Then what else does he do for an encore this year well he gets knocked out in the 2nd round. Man ever since he signed such a ridiculous contract he has only 2 tournament wins on his resume at a school like UK that just doesn’t fly and should be grounds for termination for everything mentioned above.

Difference is this guy is proven, Joker wasn’t.
He's had ONE very good year. He's been with FAU and had a losing record before coming into this sesason. He is 88-58 at FAU. Not exactly insanely good.

They are 35-3 this season. This season probably saved his job. He wasn't even the most winningest coach they had until THIS year. He was like 53/54-and 55 to start the year. He's been there 4 years going into number 5. So minus this year they were having llke 13-15 wins per season. Not exactly....great..

Hell of a year for him this year though.

UK doesn’t have an opening at head coach. He would make a fine assistant though.

Think he would come here as an assistant?

You are totally ignorant of the situation. He hasn’t had a losing season at FAU. He built the program from nothing and assembled this group of players for a big year. He was never in danger of getting fired. That is idiotic.

Unless the numbers are wrong on wikipedia, he's sitting at 88-58. 30+ wins have come THIS year.

Fired perhaps not. But he's got a .608 winning percentage. I wouldn't call that UK worthy. Not by a long shot.

Again, you don’t know anything about the shape of the program he took over. He’s 101-59 at FAU including this year. Only winning seasons after a number of losing seasons before him. I’m not arguing that UK should hire him but to dig him as unproven at this point is just dumb.
