I think Matthew Mitchell has done a fine job, but he may never get them over the hump to a Final 4 because he can't get quality post players.

Also, though I like him, paying him over $1MM a year is crazy. Why should he be head and shoulders above any other non-revenue sports coach at UK? I'm almost certain without even looking that women's basketball loses money at UK as it does at probably every other university.

Yeah, for that salary he should make some Final Fours. I know it is hard to overcome the cheat code of UCONN and the couple other teams like them, but still.

Can a recap not simply be given? This board only has about 50 new topics a day and you want the guy to go searching two weeks back. Would like to know myself.

Kyvin Goodin-Rogers! This is a surprise. She is a junior and was Epps team mate in high school. Something must be going on to have three players leave the program. I don't count Rowe. She was a problem and should have been dismissed. Hope Mitchell has things under control. Go Cats!!

I preface this by saying if this is wrong it may be the dumbest thing i have ever said and I would not even believe this if I was another poster reading what I am typing either but Im in Vegas right now and I was talking to guy who played for UNLV in the 80's whose daughter just committed to a major university for women's basketball. I mentioned that we had had a lot of transfers recently and another one today and he said that he was told by the head coach of the school whom his daughter is committed to and who knows Matthew Mitchell well that "Mitchells wife Jenna did not know who her real father was until recently and that he is a billionaire from Florida. After finding this out Matthew Mitchell is now on Team No F's, doesn't really care as much attitude and doesn't take much and he also said Mitchell had an altercation with one of the PG's who transferred.

Like I said I would immediately say this is BS, but Im just passing along what he said from what seems to be a credible person and if you kind of add up some of the pieces it doesn't sound as stupid. His wife is from Florida, he donated a MILLION to the school, 6 transfers. Like I said i know its wild, and its just hersay so don't kill me.

They are unbeaten and have moved up into the Top 15! Ms Rodgers got bypassed by some very good first year players and fell down the chart. She was not going to move past them. MM is a demanding coach and UK Hoops is a very physically demanding system. He is terrific. Built an outstanding program on discipline. Not going to let that go. Also MM donated 1 million to UK. I wonder when some of our Pro basketball players are going to give back?

I have heard from a source of mine that MM is just insanely hard to play for, and that he has pissed off pretty much every high school coach and summer league coach out there; snd players are leaving because of his extreme disciplined style. Basically, this guy I know, who is well connected with women hoops in general, said MM is just an ***. Good coach, but just not an easy guy to deal with. Holds grudges, military style in that he breaks you down, but then rarely tries to build back up.

I have no idea what is true and what isn't about Mitchell, but if the stuff about his being hard to play for and a jerk and all that is true, I would be surprised. He comes off as being very jocular, and easy going. I saw a little bit of his show in the past and he always had one of his players on with him, with guitar in hand, singing a lot and cutting up. Just seems completely at odds with what those people are saying. Not saying I don't believe the rumors, just that if true, he must work hard at creating this public image.

I like Mitchell. I realize it's possible though for someone to be one way in public and very different when the cameras are off. I have no idea what the case is here, but I'm still a supporter of Mitchell. It's disappointing he hasn't gotten to a Final Four (shows how far the program has come where that's a disappointment), but it is tough when you always seem to be in UConn's bracket.

It's possible. A lot of people choose to give money anonymously. I can see both sides. On one hand, I like the humbleness of giving money without patting yourself on the back. On the other hand, a prominent figure donating money may inspire others to do the same.

and how much does the FB coach get? At lease Mitchell gets in post season play
How much does the football program generate in revenue? How much does women's basketball?

I'm not here to protect Stoops. I think he has to get it turned around next year or he's out. But if UK ever wants a decent football program it's never going to happen unless you are willing to pay a coach at least market value. And for Power 5 football programs that market value is $3MM or more.

Should Craig Skinner be getting $1MM a year for coaching volleyball? He's done just as well as Mitchell (who I like BTW). And I'd venture to guess volleyball loses less money than women's basketball.

This isn't to bash Mitchell or the women's team. I just think there should be a cap of about $400-$500K on non-revenue/olympic sports coaches (everything except football and men's basketball).
