The word is that it's been received and not made public. Not sure I understand the logic behind it. Only thing is that Cal loves to pull these surprise stunts. Remember we only found out about Bam the day before? Before that we didn't think we were in the running

But this type of stunt would be unprecedented, and I'm not sure what the payoff would be if it's a commitment from a guy like Vanderbilt. I could see Cal doing this with guys like Knox or Bamba, because it would be seen as a detrimental blow to the perceived recruiting rival, Duke. Cal said that UK has some new things up their sleeve set for the fall. Signing Knox or Bamba and then letting Duke and the rest of the nation here about it after the fact would be a giant "F-you" to Duke and the national media that's been slurping them since the '15 title.

Vanderbilt doesn't make as much sense on that level, primarily because he's a guy who's #1 competition for his services might be TCU right now.

One of the Syracuse insiders who said Thursday that Green had 100% flipped to UK, is now saying that it "might" be Syracuse.

This particular guy said on Thursday that Green had absolutely flipped, but that Cuse was working to flip him back.

According to him it's not 50%, but there is still a chance it's Syracuse.

This doesn't mesh at all with the idea of UK having an LOI, although I tend to believe Cal would tear up a LOI if a kid didn't want to be here.

Kind of a tough situation to discuss, because we are speculating about speculation. A little recruiting choose your own adventure book.

An insider on this board (maybe @ralphdaltonfan) commented months ago that Cal was doing some things differently with this class, as far as keeping things quiet until the last minute.

Shite move by any coaching staff attempting to flip a kid after he's mailed in a LOI. Given Syracuse's historic level of recruiting desperation, however, it wouldn't surprise me at all.

I agree that it's either Knox or Bamba and the logic points to Bamba since he was at the MSG setting Tuesday night along with Richards, Green, etc.

Yeah that's why we are in murky waters. We don't 100% know if the LOI was sent in.

Agreed that Syracuse should have stopped tampering if that's the case.

Then again, Gerry McNamara could always say that Quade called him.

Or, this could all be baseless. Really one of the weirdest recruitments in memory.

Yeah and Gerry Mcnamara appears to be at the same level as Jeff Capel in pulling dirt bag moves.

He's bound to be desperate. With JB on the way out, and a crap recruiting class, they could be about to hit the skids.

LOL never pay any attention to tweets . if they matter Jaylen Brown , Bolden , and many others would be UK players. it is fairly obvious the player is Vanderbilt. His parents love Cal and UK and he was estatic after his visit. If it isn't him it would be Diallo but I very doubt that.
I don't see how it's obvious. Seems unlikely to me. Bamba would be the obvious answer.

The stories of Knox and Bamba have the same feel to me as the WG/Bam recruitment. I sure hope they turn out the same way. Nothing quite like getting exactly who we want at the expense of Templeton and Cheatin' Roy.

Something that probably shouldn't be lost in all of this is that Calipari and Boeheim pretty clearly despise each other.

i do believe that is against NCAA rules............but we are talking about JB and Cuse, so nothing would surprise me

It is against the rules. But I would imagine there is wiggle room if the player reaches out to you.

I'm not really sure though. But it's hard to see Cal making things hard on a kid who truly wanted out of his LOI.

True, but don't you think Cal would fly out there to meet with the family first, and then, after some talk and finding no change of heart from the fam, tell them the LOI is now null and void? I can't see him passing on a golden goose - and a needed one at that - without a fight, especially to a piss-ant like Boeheim.

Man, it's just all speculation at this point.

In a scenario where Cal is holding a signed LOI and Green calls to say he had second thoughts, do I think Cal would just say, "No problem," and go to mass and light another candle?

Not really. I agree that he would do his dead level best to work his magic.

Cal has historically given players a lot of leeway to make their decisions because he wanted them to be sure when they signed on the line.

Some people see Cal as all hype and marketing, but I think he believes his players first mantra. I don't see him making things tough on a kid who had made a choice.

But again, maybe none of this is even true.

You guys need to relax :)

Freaking out - for good or bad - the day of an announcement is part of the perks of being a UK fan.

The Green recruitment is already on par with some of the more legendary recruitments of years past. From a sheer weird level, it's very close to the Terrence Jones "Terrence Gate" watch.

Well this 'dasher' guy on the Cuse forums says "We don't have a signed LOI. that I know. He could have signed it and kept it. Ready to turn it in tonight. But if someone has a signed LOI, it isn't us."

Last I recall, Green's HS coach said the letter was sent in on Wednesday.
Yeah that's very telling to me.

In order of who I would want (with Young not being a possibility):

1. Bamba
2. Knox
3. Diallo
4. Vanderbilt

Ruling out Young is a tad premature. A week ago, there was hardly a soul on this message board who thought we had a legitimate shot at Green.

Betcha we pass up Ray Allen and Carl Krauser in terms of Syracuse-based hatred if we land Green. Remember this gem from Nike?
