Sport?!?! It is an activity that supports the entertainment experience like the Pep Band. Like Pep Band.....Its not a sport.
The cheerleaders for our school, which have been the most dominate for 2 decades, have a major situation come up during a time when there is basically nothing else to discuss sports related and you don't understand why?
Yep, any old RR poster could do all this stuff...
Uavel dance team coach fired for embezzlement ended up shooting himself in the leg at a hotel where Uavel baseball banquet going on
Totally same as the hot dog vendor
He should try the sport of Gymnastics. Could get a gold medal for it in the Olympics where the other sports go.
Sandy Bell is in charge of hiring the next coach so you know she won’t put up with any ****.
I understand the newsworthiness of it. It has all the sensational, titillating details that gets clicks. I suppose if the hotdog vendors got into trouble we would be talking about them....
Football isn’t a sport. Got it
Yep, any old RR poster could do all this stuff...
If true, this takes it up to a major (criminal) level
That would depend on if they were the 20 time world champion hotdog venders I guess.
You missed the part that says “were deemed to be "without merit" after they were not corroborated in interviews with team members.” Did you even read the article?
That is your take? There are other actual sports that are not Olympic sports.
You introduced being in the Olympics as criteria for being a sport, not me.
Have you ever watched Joey Chestnut or Kobayashi? That takes athleticism too.
They are not vendors....quit moving the target. Next you will be comparing the guy who works at the hotdog plant to a coach game planning for the Superbowl.

I'm surprised it wasn't common knowledge w/ the lake's boating community...especially if it was an annual deal. Seems like naked cheerleader hijinks would be something that would be noticed by others on the lake. I would've been scheduling my vacation around it...I am just mad I wasn't invited. I mean I have a boat on Cumberland and would have been more than glad to take them out.
This will probably be heavily criticized, but in my humble opinion, anything that is judged isn't really a sport. Things that can be definitively determined, such as who crosses the finish line first, who jumps the highest, who jumps the furthest, who scores the most points, etc., are sports. If you have to have a panel judging a competition, then it is not sport. Judging is subjective, even with specific guidelines for judges to score competitions. I've never thought that anything that requires judging should be called sport. That's not to say that the people who participate in those competitions aren't extremely athletic. But being athletic does not equate to being a sport in my opinion. That is your take? There are other actual sports that are not Olympic sports.
Cheer leading is not a sport. Gymnastics is. That is why gymnasts are in the Olympics.
If Cheer leaders want to join a sport where there talents could be put to use...gymnastics would be the closest sport. I am guessing that many of them do have a history of gymnastics. And so you dont think I am just picking on the rah rahs.... The Dance team is not a sport either although it is much more entertaining than Cheer. And the females are REAL females and not just a miniaturized version of an actual female.
Cheerleading isn’t governed by the NCAA, but who’s to say that’d stop the NCAA?while this isn't all that earth shattering...UK has had loooong stances on hazing and alcohol on campus on campus events since the late 80's.
They can't have a double standard for athletics (esp. after a parent complained).
I'm sure the nail in the coffin was running a gym and hiring cheerleaders to work there...we don't want the NCAA sniffing around any of our programs.
hmmmmm, is cheerleading even governed by the NCAA?
you should change your avatar, please.
You can't say college kids being college kids when is was a school sponsored event and the coaching staff was there and did nothing. Now if the kids had done this on their own without school knowledge that would have been different.Yea, it sounds like college kids being college kids. The part about the staff paying athletes to help coach kids and do some other work seemed normal as well. If you're paying them to do legal work, what is the issue? Sounds like UK may have just been digging for excuses to fire them.

Lol, they were off-campus events, some school sponsored, some not. The alcohol was admittedly snuck in by the players and former alumni, who provided the boats for the Lake Cumberland retreat. The students even admitted they were told by the coaching staff not to consume alcohol while on these events. They are all adults and responsible for their choices, not the coaches. If anything the student-athletes need to be reprimanded for breaking the rules. You can't say college kids being college kids when is was a school sponsored event and the coaching staff was there and did nothing. This isn’t anything special........When I was working this is how I exited the office every Friday afternoon....
Totally same as the hot dog vendor
I agree with you in principle, but even sports like basketball and football are judged by referees. This will probably be heavily criticized, but in my humble opinion, anything that is judged isn't really a sport.
