while this isn't all that earth shattering...UK has had loooong stances on hazing and alcohol on campus on campus events since the late 80's.
They can't have a double standard for athletics (esp. after a parent complained).
I'm sure the nail in the coffin was running a gym and hiring cheerleaders to work there...we don't want the NCAA sniffing around any of our programs.

hmmmmm, is cheerleading even governed by the NCAA?

i pledged a fraternity in 1994. I was hazed daily, as were all of my pledge brothers. As well, it was perfectly acceptable for me and my friends to travel all over campus in the evenings with open alcohol containers, while campus police watched and stood by. Also, there was a house party nightly in multiple fraternity houses, with as much alcohol as you could hope for, with no issues. I’m not convinced that UKs policy on hazing and alcohol on campus was all that tough before maybe 10 years ago. Surely not since the 80’s.

So most points addressed by KSR were: drinking and nudity at the lake for college students?

Am i missing something? I guess the cause of concern is that these trips were representing the University at these camps. I get it but ill be honest I expected to read much worse.

I am just mad I wasn't invited. I mean I have a boat on Cumberland and would have been more than glad to take them out.

Should call Dawn Duncan Walters immediately. Current UK Dance coach. She was on UK dance team and UK Cheerleader in late 80's. Really want UK Cheer program to stay on top, even though they placed 3rd this year in UCA competition.

it was much different when they first imposed the rule (I guess)...we were watched like hawks...of course, there were some bad hazing accidents around that time and a drunk student was killed crossing the street in front of a car (i actually know the guy that hit and killed the drunk student...it really messed him up)

Exactly. This is normal college behavior.
i think this may be the bigger problem

The investigation also uncovered potential conflicts of interest for two members of the coaching staff who ran gymnastics businesses that employed members of the cheerleading squad and the advisor, who hired students and coaches to perform work at his home. The Office of Internal Audit is reviewing these and other financial practices of the cheerleading squad.

Yaaaawwwwnnnn college kids drinking and getting naked?? Unheard of.....

The issue is not really that they were getting drunk and naked, instead it's the coaches openly observing and allowing underage drinking and public nudity ..both of which are technically crimes.

Everyone knows college kids will do that stuff, but college coaches have to at least pretend not to condone it. Failing to do so can expose the school to potentially serious liability issues.

Why is a topic about cheerleading on a Sports forum? Is there an "entertainment, dancing, music, pop culture page" where this could be discussed. I know cheerleaders become closely associated with actual sport, in this case basketball, much like Dancing Carl or whatever his name was. If the popcorn vendors get in trouble are we going to discuss here?

Aside from jazz hands and spirit fingers I am not sure what they do to be included in a discussion board where athletics and athletes are discussed.

The cheerleaders for our school, which have been the most dominate for 2 decades, have a major situation come up during a time when there is basically nothing else to discuss sports related and you don't understand why?
