Would love to seem him be a consistent 10-15 foot jump shooter...in games.
I will say he has good shooting form …nice footwork …but gotta see it on the floor cause we didn’t last year

Yes he does to me too. Seems very mechanical. He does have a nice form shooting however.
I mean 7 footers aren't usually known for being speedsters.

In warmups at the games i went to last year you can notice it, he is just step to slow right now, he can hit that 10-15 foot jumper though he hits that pretty much the whole warmup period before games
Good to see his frame filling out some. Biggest issue w staying on the floor last year was a strong breeze would push him around.
He's slow. And that's not going to fly against other size. Maybe against a Wheeler where he can just play keep away. But you're not getting major minutes with a gather and shooting form that slow.
This whole thing is impressive......with no one guarding him. But good for him.

It’s obvious from the before and after photos that’s he’s worked hard this offseason. Hopefully we will see major improvements when the season starts. He has potential to be really good
If he's our starting center this season we are in trouble.
No pressure on him looks like his natural pace. Put some press on him and hopefully he can speed up without too many mistakes

Oscar and Reeves coming back is crucial to this coming season, imo.
With a Guard or SF that's a very important point. But not so much with a frontcourt player, is it? If you don't have multiple guys on the floor at the same time (maybe even 4) that you'd rather be taking a perimeter shot, then you probably have a terribly constructed roster. I would guess Onyenso should only be taking 3-pt. shots when wide open and with plenty of space (kind of like Wheeler began doing near the end of his playing at UK). In that case accuracy is going to be the important factor, rather than ability to get the shot off quickly.

From inside he brings the ball down before he shots. Very bad bigman habit.
IMO he needs to demonstrate in his workout videos that he's getting FASTER. Oscar was a monster underneath the basket but was turnover prone because he was slow and brought the ball down low enough to have it stripped. Maybe this is a staffing issue? Why aren't they addressing this?

I see. I misunderstood. I thought you were saying it was really important for Onyenso to have a quicker perimeter shot (which, of course, is better), and I thought maybe that particular thing wasn't high on the priority list for him.
I saw him in the Bahamas and that was my take.
The highlight videos haven’t changed that.
But I think he can help us.
He’s just not going to be a star.
Given the roster, it doesn't matter his shooting form. That guy is getting major minutes next season.
My point was that on most teams he's not getting many minutes with his current status. And on this roster unless those guys around him are shooting lights out, they are going to sag off them and he's going to get exposed and eat some leather.

The kid actually has a pretty good looking shot. I am excited to see what he can do this year with the leash off.
He better make a huge leap. At this point we need some dudes just to practice and the top 7 better be NBA level from the first month on.
Nice form and stuff but yes it’s very mechanical, not something that comes natural. I’d worry in game speed about him being able to do this. Defense, getting fouled, or pure rushing.
Of course not but guys like AD, Nerlens, and WCS we very Fluid, even Richards moved gracefully. He just didn’t have hands his first 2 years. Ugo looks too mechanical and robotic when he moves. Granted those other guys were top 10 talents/lotto picks.
