So grilling out and nothing else on, just left the TV on ESPN. Have to admit I haven't watched a women's college basketball game in a long time. But talk about a well oiled machine. They have been over all the awards and records this team is breaking/making. My question is, under Geno are they the greatest dynasty of all time?

Hell cheating Wooden couldn't even win 4 straight. ( assuming they win a 4th )

UCLA won seven straight, between 1967-1973. It was the years of my late childhood and nearly killed my interest in college basketball.

And no, the competition in women's basketball is not within 1,000 miles of that in men's basketball in the 1960s-1970s, an era where players as great as Oscar Robertson, Bill Russell, Pete Maravich, Dan Issel, Wilt Chamberlain and so on had played. So winning the women's championship is in no way as difficult as winning on the men's side in any era.

I thought that was the case. Doris slipped up I guess.

Doris. LOL. Falls right in line with this 'gender equality'(no idea what that means) hokum we're hearing about these days.

Overall not extremely exciting...

The rest of women's basketball needs to get it gear...

Men's game has it's elites...but Vandy and UT can compete with and beat UK in conference, and Butler or VCU can make deep tourney runs...Bucknell can beat KU...Florida Gulf Coast can advance, etc...

I'm not sure what it is...got to be more than just talent...i mean there are more talented girls across the country than the 4-5 Geno pulls in every year...

Very big and interesting discussion to be had with the women's game going forward...it's great to have stars that have mass appeal and attract attention, but after awhile you need the game to grow...

Geno and his star girls are great now, but eventually people are going to lose interest in undefeated runs and blow outs...

In men's water polo, there have been 47 National Championships won. 42 of those 47 have been won by UCLA, Cal, Stanford, and USC. The other five have been won by California schools. I mention this because only about five or ten schools are even attempting to win the water polo championship.

UConn is good but nobody is that good without facing a serious lack of competition. Much like men's water polo, there is such a low level of interest/effort being put in to women's college basketball that I have a hard time taking a "dynasty" from that sport seriously. UK 1996-1998 deserves dynasty status before anything UConn does, even if UConn wins eight of the next ten.

Pat Summitt retiring tok his competition away. Women aren't leaving school early so if you are going to play four years and you are great why go anywhere else? If you play there you're assured over the four years of multiple FF and probable titles.

Yup. Kentucky would be in a similar position if all of Cal's guys stayed four years, although I do believe the depth of talent in the women's game is lacking.

UConn should start their bottom 5 girls and play them the entire half. Enter starters at half time. I have no interest watching a 20 point lead at the half.

I've said before that there will be more balance in the women's game once Gino retires. Right now, all the elite women want to play for UConn. Tennessee was a juggernaut until Pat Summit retired. UT has now dropped back considerably. I think the same thing will happen to UConn.

Wooden had the advantage that all teams stayed in their home region come tournament time. UCLA was really the only team worth a damn in the West. They often had a walk through to the Final Four before they even met a ranked team. They were still the best team each year, but if todays seeding and placement had been in effect during those years, the chance for an upset would have been much greater.

Why aren't they leaving though? Players like Maya Moore and Stewart could've left after 2 years instead of 4.

Doris Burke was right .. she just made up her own category. Only single CLASS to win 4 titles. They can thank UL for the record though. They upset the Greiner Baylor team that was ranked #1 and likely would have beaten UCONN. Was at that game and UL was unreal from 3 and won it on a last second basket.

I envy gyno auriemma that dudes seen more tang than wilt chamberlain. I think he might of wanted to be a gynecologist, but had to settle coaching women's basketball instead.

In all honesty women's college basketball is awful but I give him his credit he has a well oiled machine going on down there(no pun intended ladies) except for the occasional Brittney griner who comes around once a millennium he wins it all almost every year. I think she could kick all our asses and may have been based off the movie juanna Mann lol

They were saying no PLAYER ever won 4-straight. Back when UCLA won 7-straight freshman were ineligible. So in the current era of freshmen eligibility no team has actually ever won 4-straight.

Winning 4 straight in women's bball is not some amazing accomplishment. Give me 3 straight for UCLA guys back in the day.

They just said that this senior class is UCONN's only #1 rated class in the past 4 years? How is that possible? Either way move over cheater Wooden. Your second place tonight. Don't care if it's girls.

Every year it seems there are the same four or five schools competing for a chance to play against UConn and make it to the Final Four. This year is the first time I've seen so many upsets and weird teams make it.

This will be UConn's sixth undefeated season. The last three years they have won the titles by a margin of 10, 21 and 33.

They have won 5 of the last 7.

Always wondered if Auriemma is cheating. Although it's Womens colllege BB, so no one really cares.

He's only had the #1 class once in the last 4 years, although that class included the Stewart girl who was the best player from day 1 she stepped into college.

The thing is, this is incorrect. He's a great basketball coach. Here is a look at who he signed (national rankings):

2015 - 1, 6, 23
2014 - 14, 17, 31, 33
2013 - 75
2012 - 1, 2, 6

Compare that to Notre Dame:

2015 - 10, 13, 24
2014 - 2, 21
2013 - 4, 25, 39
2012 - 4, 33, 52

Top 10 recruits
UConn - 5
Notre Dame - 4

11 - 20 recruits
UConn - 2
Notre Dame - 1

21 - 30 recruits
UConn - 1
Notre Dame - 3

31 - 40 recruits
UConn - 2
Notre Dame - 2

As others have mentioned, they signed a stellar class in 2012 and that class has been awesome. Damn, I just researched women's college basketball recruiting.

Anyone ever consider the idea he may be a better evaluator of talent than those making the recruiting rankings? Not a whole lot of attention is given to women's recruiting.

Did anyone watch UK Texas Western the other day? How about UConn Syracuse last night? The UConn women would beat any college men's team from the 60's in their prime. The game of women's college basketball is just about 40 years old thanks to title IX. Give it another 40 years you won't recognize it just like the men's game of today.
