You never see us getting early commitments from kids, Cal waits or tells them to wait as he drools after players we seem to can’t get anymore. I know we were happy going into last season and the top kids played like kids. If they had flourished, recruiting would be better.

Final 4 run is probably going to lead them back to relevance unfortunately

Maybe, maybe not. Had a nice run late in the season but four of their last seven wins were in OT. Next year they may come into the NCAAs highly rated but get unlucky and lose in OT in their second game.

Dear Lord.....Please don't let us devolve into IU.
Is Checkerboard the new Pinstripe?? Kinda feeling that way right now.
Indiana - one trip past the Sweet 16 since 1993.
Kentucky - two trips past the Sweet 16 since 2017. Seven since 2010.

IU - no tourney title of any kind since 1987.
UK - SEC tourney champs 2015, 16, 17, 18. NCAA champions 1996, 98, 2012.

Yeah, kinda feels that way.

I am sort of going to enjoy the next year of hearing how Mick Cronin is resurgent - how 1 tournament performance should define him and not the previous 15. He is no different, not any better of a coach, than he was. He caught lightning in a bottle, that's it. No different than any number of coaches who had a single run and then never duplicated it again (Shaka Smart, I feel for you).

I hope I just don't want them to win another one soon so we can eventually pass them one day

We will see. It will likely give them a nice little 3-5 year run for sure.

But their biggest issue in sustaining is that their fan support is almost non existent bc they are the 10th+ show in town which then bleeds into the administration and boosters.

They had that big run during the Russ Westbrook timeframe w multiple F4s and then slipped back to insignificance w a blip (lonzo) here and there.

Maybe social media being significantly bigger now than it was then will make it easier to sustain any momentum they get in the next year or 2.

This x1000. Greg Marshall, Kevin Ollie, it's a long list. UCLA will be highly ranked next year and the biggest disappointment.

Agreed. Cronin is not a great coach. He caught lightning in a bottle primarily fueled by Juzang and will be back to being mediocre Mick next year. Recruits will once again forget UCLA.

Is this mighty UCLA the 11-seed in the weakest tournament in decades that was behind by 14-points in the second half of the play-in game?

Cronin had an improbable couple weeks riding an incredibly hot player who I still expect will not be back. That's closer to 2011 VCU than an unstoppable dynasty.

Has JJ gone to the draft or anything? Haven’t been paying attention. Is he for sure back next year?

Not 100% sure but I think he's testing tht waters and was in the latest mock draft in the first round. His stock will never be higher so feel confident he will go this year.

Then it's back to mediocre Mick we knew and loved at cincinnati.

Possible, and I hope it is. Do not like UCLA at all.

You've said this in at least 15 different threads. Why does it matter how many points behind they were in a particular game? Did they win the game? Did they darn near make the finals? If they'd won it all (doubtful as Baylor just too good) would the record books show 'but they were down by 14 in the play-in game? I don't see the relevance of a midgame score that UCLA ended up winning.

I'm not sold on UCLA being 'back'. But to continue to throw out a meaningless data point in a lame attempt to downplay their tourney run is silly.

lol until Cronin’s coaching gets them back to about the same level they were with Alford, then the recruiting starts tanking.
I’m not sure where this “Mick Cronin being a bad coach” narrative on this board comes from.

To be honest, I thought his UC teams looked pretty well-coached. As I recall, they played really hard and we’re really intense on the defensive end. It’s true that they were not good shooting teams (something that, thanks to players like Juzang, he seems to have fixed at UCLA), but there was never any question as to how hard Cronin’s teams would play.

I always thought he was a pretty good coach, despite how much folks on this board want to believe otherwise.
