Watched the game last night and was blown away by the speed of Utah and the play calling. UCLA had no chance in that game the UCLA QB who has a very good arm looked very confused. Utah uses speed and a very good offensive line to wear down defenses, sounds very familiar to what Nebraska used to do but got away from. It will be interesting to see if Utah can hold up physically as the season progresses but they were fun to watch. UCLA is very beatable if you pressure defensively with speed and have an mix of run/pass on offense.

I watched game and very impressed by Utah and equally unimpressed by UCLA.

Funny that Utah was 2-7 in Big 12 last year and Phil Steele had them with less all conference preseason selections than Cincinnati. Utah absolutely has enough good players to finish in top 4-6 of big and should have chance to win Big12 this year amongs 4-5 other teams. Big 12 doesn't have schools that recruit and have talent of Oregon, Penn State, Ohio State but has a lot of pretty good teams and that lack of understanding of that is why you see people getting fired up over a what was a solid opening win for Nebraraks.

Cincy (9 Phile Steel Preseason Selections)
RB-Walker
WR-Caldwell
TI - Royer
Oline-Gerhard, Tyo, Cotton
Dline-Corleone
LB-Golday
Secondary-Mcdoom

Utah (7 Phile Steele Preseason Selections)
OLine - Fano, Loma, Cotton
Dline - Fano Valkoli
LB - Barton
DB - Mcdoom, Snowden

Utah is a hard nosed team and UCLA is soft too many times. I wasn't surprised at all just like I wasn't surprised with Colorado. We need a mobile QB, bad.

Typical Kyle Whittingham/Morgan Scally team, plus a quarterback and offensive identity. They haven’t had that for 2 to 3 seasons. Oh, and throw in very consistently good special teams.

Of all the games I caught, FSU and Utah’s dubs were the most impressive.

I didn’t watch any of it. But Virginia’s thrashing of typically good Coastal Carolina was pretty impressive too.

I'm not taking UCLA lightly but I think Nebraska can beat them if they play a smart game in Pasadena this year. I know a lot of people wrote this game off as a loss for us and I'm not one of them. Our coaches have a lot of work to do to get this team to where it needs to be. We are going get a team we can all be proud of but it is going a little time, but it's coming.

Agree, having a mobile QB in college game is a big deal and I believe DR will be a better Pro than he is a college QB because passing game get more refined and suite a guy like him.

That being said, he is helping build the foundation by getting us to a point that we win enough to attract and keep recruits like Lateef and Trey. That why it is so important to get to 8 wins and look competent on offense.

If we do that we keep momentum and it will be mobile guys like Lateef and/or Trey (also great passers) who are ultimate beneficiaries and eventually get program back to where we would like it. Just cannot imploid this year and lose the momentum and recruiting before we get to those guys.

I would take Utah's HC and staff over anything we currently have. I watched the game Thursday and was like WTF for most of it. D-Line is trash and it seemed that our O-line either couldn't sustain blocks or get to the second level. Might as well get ready for ANOTHER 6-6 season or worse yet.

It's a game we should win. If we lose that game, serious doubt will surround Rhule.

It's a rare QB that really runs and throws well. It's more often than not a trade-off. Before we got Raiola we had a bunch of mobile QBs that threw like garbage and made us one-dimensional. NU just beat a team with a highly mobile QB and despite our weak run defense we out-gained them and controlled the clock. Ultimately you need players that can produce.

I don't take game one outcomes too seriously. In fact, I think it is stupid to have all these big matchups on game one. Teams often look very different later in the season than at the beginning of the year. I think it's silly to schedule a big game matchup as the first game of the season. You have new players, new systems, new coordinators, etc. Having a couple easy wins to start the year makes for better football. NU used to always schedule these as game three matchups.
