The assumption is the quality depth must come from the bench. How many teams have solid players from 1-5 who can be a go-to person at most any time? Both teams had that which is rare. The bench contributed 19 minutes and 4 points for the Zags, UCLA had 44 minutes and 6 points from non starters so if you look at that, it was enough to keep each team in the game and provide some breathers. Sure, when it is do or die time, you play your best for their is no tomorrow but no way Few or Cronin could have done that all season long. You have to depend on that bench sooner or later to get you to that critical point.

But consider that UCLA went into the year and lost Chris Smith, Cronin's "top returning player" and his backup forward in Jalen Hill. The top 5 averaged nearly double figures at, what was it. 9.8 pts per game? In any book I have read, that is some quality depth.

If you had said this in the first place, absolutely nobody here would have had the audacity to disagree with you.

Some things seem obvious but maybe not.
Things that are obvious do not require such an exhausting amount of man-splaining.

Cronin probably rode his starters more than any Power 5 coach in the country, even when "their" was a tomorrow. Sure didn't seem to hurt them come tournament time. Few didn't need to do that, because Gonzaga made short work of so many opponents.
